This is a lack of a sense of priorities. 12000 for a ticket for a 5 hr train journey covering 480 km. The same journey is more cost effective on a plane ride which only takes 45min.

Taxi fare from Nairobi to Soykimau Railway station in Machakos County, is Ksh4500.!
Then from Mritini Terminus to Mombasa, the taxi fare is Ksh 4000!
So the Total cost from Nairob8 to Mombasa via UHURU BUILT SGR is:
12000 + 4500+ 4000=20500!
Which Stupid person will spend 20k on this Train, when he can FLY for 9k???

In tanzania we have electric SGR train the distance from Dar es salaam to Dodoma, the capital city of Tanzania is 460 kilometers, 13 Kmilometers more than distance between Mombasa to Nairobi.The ticket price third class from Dar es Salaam-Dodoma Sh59, 494(Ksh 2,913.70) per adult and Sh29, 747(Ksh 1456.85) for kids between the ages of 4 and 12. Economy class: Sh71,392 (Ksh 3496.40) per adult and Sh35,696 (Ksh 1748.20) for kids. It takes 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach Dodoma.
Rather buy a flight ticket to tanzania then jet in from there to jkia. Much better value.
Flight to mombasa is just 9000 for only 45minutes. Why pay 12k for 4hrs? Its ridiculous.

Use a flight instead. Expand railway network to Isiolo, Kisumu, Eldoret, Meru…instead of premium service that doesn't serve a broader base of people. Why still serve a small number of elites?
