  1. You need to be more understanding of runners in the twilight of their careers – for Pete's sake, Bekele's 41 years old, and certainly is the world master's record holder.

  2. To me Bekele is the greatest rinner to ever live. Hes the king! Kipchoge is the goat of the marathon only. And if u want me to be honest kipchoge is lucky to an extent. Because i believe kiptum would have demolished every single record he set in the marathon. Including the 2 hr barrier. But we will never find that out now.

  3. Depending on how you look at it. Because Bekele doesn't post on social media might be why many people do like him because he is focused and doesn't spend time letting media distract him. Bekele is humble and focused on his goals and because he is legendary wirh a long victorious running career is why he has many true fans.I think most runners are different. We care more about someone's talent not what they post.Racer X was a great racer on an old cartoon called Speed Racer but because Racer X was mysterious behind the scenes always being a top notch racer helping Speed Racer out of trouble is why people loved his chatector. Not to compare old Japanese cartoons to running but because Beleke many races stand and talk for themselves.

  4. I think Bekele is a product of his generation like I am. Social media is just not ingrained in our brains. I am pretty sure he just was not feeling it. When you get in the 40’s a bad day is magnified 3x to a younger runners. No question in my mind on the right day Bekele could still run a 2:03 but things have to line up for him. He has a shot at a gold medal on the right day. If he didn’t think he could, he would lose interest. Based on his motivation I suspect he knows he has at least a shot on the right day. Performance is very mysterious and the smallest factors make huge differences. Look at the super spikes. Runners have not suddenly gotten better, but tech is paving a new generation of distance runner. In the age before this tech boom no doubt who the all time king of distance running is. Bekele. I could make an argument in his prime with equal tech, there is no doubt he is the champion. So he is no ordinary runner but only he knows what he has in those legs. Being I’m 46 and just started running again to see him medal in the Olympics would inspire a generation of masters runners. He doesn’t give a shit what people think. He believes in himself and that is what made his special from his surprise double at his first xc worlds. Go Bekele! Show the boys us older runners still have it on the right day:)

  5. Bekele probably was doing this for a shake out run. He just went fast at first so he didnt get tripped. The dude is 42 years old. You act like he is 24

  6. This guy jerks my chain. Stop criticizing the pace as slow. 28 minutes is super fast up a new york bridge. You need to check gradient before you talk smack

  7. Oh my goodness…Runner, you need to learn to shut up. Bekele knows what social media is, he just has better things to do with himself; just because you don't know why he's dashing out on the first 400m doesn't mean he doesn't know; and pleasure stop lecturing 2:04 marathoners about retirement, it's embarrassing. He's the 2nd fastest HM runner 40+ currently alive (behind Tadesse Abraham, 59:56 or whatever); and the fastest 40+ marathoner alive (40 secondes ahead of the same Abraham). He doesn't have to apologise for his performance!

  8. Bekele complained of stomach issues before the race on his interview with let's run.He said he found the race difficult. He said he has 2 weeks of hard training before London to improve. He said his chances of making the Olympic team are 50/50.I hope he was playing a game of sorts yesterday because if it was a genuine effort its worrying.

  9. I came across few videos by this channel, and I really dislike the attitude of this guy towards older athletes who now underperform with respect to their prime years. He says that he follows marathon running since he was a young kid, but does not give much technical and tactical analysis of races and athletes, in my humble opinion of amateur runner. I barely learn anything new from these videos. He also disregards semi pro athletes just because they do not make money from running, and in general has a very negative attitude towards failure and poor performance, which are part of the sport. You know what man, I don't know what your personal experience in the sport is, I might be wrong but you don't sound like a guy who enjoys running. You are not supposed to, in order to make these videos. But that's the thing that makes the content good to me. That's why I unsub.

  10. Let's hope that Kenenisa reserved energy for upcoming London marathon. Let the channel followers too have some respect and sympathy for the commentator. I don't believe anyone loves Bekele more than he does,so talking ruthlessly about his opinion like that is not good. Thanks for the update, bro. I love you,and your works.

  11. No I disagree, he doesn't have to post anything on social media. The smart fans will always be his fans, he didn't let us down! His running doesnt revolve around social media, he's legend regardless of whether he post or not

  12. Blah blah blah blah. Below 1:04 in a half marathon, at age 41, and you call that a very bad race??! Let's see you at your prime, get even close to 1:04. And you call yourself The Runner?? Bekele is still training and competitive at age 41, which is amazing. You can't expect him to win races against kids half his age. Give him the respect he deserves, instead of blabbering nonsense. Pathetic.

  13. Bekele needs to take a look at video of himself running before super shoes. He has gradually started leaning forward more and more and holding his arms lower over time. The fact that he still runs so well just shows how good he really is. But take a look back at his great 5000 or 10000 runs or the great north run and tell me you don’t see a difference now

  14. The Eritreans are among the lead . How you address them as couple of Ethiopians &you got stuck with the loser kenenisa… sup ?? Can’t you mention the 3rd 4th etc 🇪🇷. BS.. reporting style

  15. Whatever dude. For those of us who have followed Bekele since the early 2000s, we know he's the best. Every race is a gift (no matter how he does now). Gebreselassie is a close 2nd. I love Eliud's marathoning, but he's never been in the same stratosphere as those two Ethiopians.

  16. Bekele won’t lose fans because he isn’t posting on social media lol man has been around long before all that crap, winning races and breaking records. It is not his problem we live in a time where everyone feels he owes them his training schedule and structure, what he eats and when he poops. Man is a legend and it is amazing that after all the years and miles his body is still able to perform on this level. I can’t imagine the toll this sport takes on the body on the elite level over the years. That he is still showing up and placing high to me shows how much love he has for the sport. I’m sure with his reputation he could earn money different ways, he doesn’t have to race.

  17. Bekele may lose some media fans but he is so respected among common people and athletes, that ii is easy to understand why some people stay away from this type of news. Let´s not forget Kenenisa Bekele is not an actor who depends on his audience; he is the greatest track athlete ever.

  18. 10:40 It makes sense to me. If he's running in London next month, he didn't want to empty the tank here and have nothing left for next month. 1:03 is a good run for a 40-year-old who is looking to go 2:03 next month.

  19. Uhm what’s your source that Bekele was going for a Masters record? You make so many claims and assumptions in your video which are not well supported. You even said yourself that you didn’t know that the New York half has elevation in the course. If you cover a race know the course. well cover – it is more a recap.

As most runners know running down a slope/hill/whatever is more taxing than running upwards.

I do believe you have a passion for the sport and I encourage you to make videos but you I am fairly certain you have never ran a simple 5km under 14 min. Which is not fast for elites but for amateurs it is.

The way you always say it is not fast sounds to me often as condescending.

  20. It’s very very simple. HE’S OLD. GOT IT? HE’S OLD JUST LIKE ELIUD KIPCHOGE. FATHER TIME CATCHES EVERY SINGLE ATHLETE IN HISTORY. NO ONE PERFORMS LIKE THEY’RE YOUNG WHEN THEY GET OLD. DUH.

  21. The popularity of Bekele does not depend on social medias. He is legend for what he has accomplished in the past 20 years. He does not have to be "up to date" with social medias, he just wants to train and keep his life private. Maybe "The Runner" should take example of him, train a bit more and devote less time to social medias
