Johannesburg Water announces major 96-hour outage for 40 suburbs

Johannesburg Water has announced a 96-hour emergency water interruption set to begin on the evening of Friday, 9 May, impacting multiple suburbs across the city.

The shutdown, due to urgent maintenance work, will run from 6:00 PM on Friday through to 6:00 PM on Tuesday, 13 May.

Johannesburg Water said its teams will be repairing leaks on the pipeline, and it is unclear whether water tankers will be provided.

All the streets in the following suburbs will be affected by the emergency water shutdown:

PREVIOUSLY ANNOUNCED MAINTENANCE COMPLETED

Meanwhile, the planned maintenance work that was scheduled for this week in parts of Johannesburg has been completed.

All the streets in all Orange Farm extensions experienced low pressure to no water for 10 hours on Wednesday, 7 May, due to planned maintenance that was scheduled from 6:00 – 16:00.

Likewise, on Thursday, 8 May, Johannesburg Water also conducted another water shutdown on Thursday, 8 May at Amarosa ext 55, and all the streets were affected during this period.

Customers had no water for at least eight hours as Johannesburg Water teams were tying in a new pipe to the existing infrastructure.
