It's not stupidity, just ignorance. If you're a Bible-reading Christian, you're more likely to get the answers right. However, most of the population are not reading or studying about Christian faith or history. Can't really blame them for not knowing.
If I remember correctly, Christmas is a holiday to celebrate Jesus's birth, but if people fact-check, Jesus was born in the Spring, not Winter!!! The reason Christmas is celebrated in December during Winter is because pagan worshippers wanted to coincide their worship of the "sun god" with that of Jesus's birth. So they moved Jesus's birthday to the day they celebrate/worship their "sun god".
