Jacksonville Beach street renamed to honor local African American icon

A street sign in Jacksonville Beach is now a tribute to Margaret Ann McQueen, the first African American to be elected to the Jacksonville Beach City Council. She served from 1991 to 1994 and then again in 1998.

  1. Thank you all for your comments. Some of you know me as Solomon or Kelsie and my mother was Margaret. I live on the street that is named for my mother. It is a great honor to look out my front door and see the street my family has lived on for over forty years and see my mother's name on street she built herhome on. She was born just two blocks away from it in 1940. She married Solomon McQueen…was abused by him, cheated on her and then abandoned by him, then met my father John Henry McIntyre in Gary Indiana. Why she decided to name me after her abuser has perplexed me and my sisters Solneather, Mable and Tina for years but I will soon correct this. My mother was a strong woman…proud and I may be a detriment in my true paternity but otherwise she was flawless. She is a inspiration for everyone.

Solomon Kelsie McQueen…soon to be renamed John Kelsie McIntyre.

  2. I'm sorry I don't agree with renaming the street to honor this person, I think that we should've had a chance to vote on these things just like we should've had opportunity to vote on historical statues being removed. The people should vote on it, I'm tired of others ignoring history and taking the decision out of our hands.

  5. Me and my youngest sisters stolen identities used here while we are lied about doing fraud that has been in place since way before my parents parents were born and probably before that!! Imagine because of the need to protect you make others lie

about what they need to do or their situation to only I protect yourself. And stop any crime complaints all together because you feel wronged , however something happens we all have civil and human rights. So anything that happens is supposed to be brought up , even if it tarnished anything against your needs. For the sake of

fairness and needing help. Why would someone make someone look like a liar to only benefit and then punish people who aren't lying? Because they look like certain people??

  6. I haven't been able to complain about anything to the police ever and usually people can in their identity. She knew us before she made her male relative meet my sister to destroy our lives further. They kept me away from my children and before that growing up my entire life , my family. Tried to

lie that me and my family are crazy because of it. And will probably defend that and say the same thing about us but we can't speak out. Unless they get to first. Which mixes times and instances of things that happened. One situation has nothing to do with the other. Even if you need to bring it up.

Someone's problems are not yours to speak on top of. They are their own place and time. The identities aren't anyone else's but the person's they belong to , to use. There is no fairness or legality. Not even serious things can be reported.
