Conditions have changed in Syria. Return the refugees and let them help to sort out the country and rebuild. It was never the intention to give rhem a permanent home, only temporary safety, not a new life like European citizens have. If they act rebellious and ungrateful, then they should be forcefully removed.
If Assad was persecuting these refugees, then that has ended and Syrians should be returned. Refugee is a temporary status and, if that were not the case, then they should never be accepted in the first place. A Country is sovereign and offers temporary refuge and now these people are needed to rebuild. It may be hard but that's what should happen. If refugees won't return, then they should be penalized and lose the legal right to be in the country.
If countries invested even half of what is being spent on these people, they could create a decent country.
I think some EU countries are ready to do this as their citizens demand it.

One must say.., you've delivered the smallest talking point by talking about it the longest! What is occurring in Syria is change… And as for demographic population shifts, the whole world is one big story of migration. No one group in their thousands are going to jump onto a sailing ship full a'holes in the hull to go to a place full of holes in social stability and Gov't. The rebuilding of Syria will take time and if the Arab Gulf States along with other moneyed power brokers, IE China (and perhaps the US?) seize the opportunity of investing into Syrian infrastructure their mega-billions, Syria will soon blossom and thrive. And that will bring multitude of Syrians back. But time and stability are paramount ingredients in this long term progressive plan. We should all wish them Good Luck!
