  1. That reminds me of some lady from Holland, I went with her to displaced people camp and she was wondering how come the children are looking healthy unlike what she used to be told or seen in newspapers.
I told her that she could have seen a picture of children from different parts of Africa but not the whole of Africa.

  2. If there ever comes a day when Africa no longer has starvation problems, what rationale are parents gonna come up with to make kids clean their plates? Maybe they'll just make up a country. "There are kids in Randistan who don't have any food."

  3. I know that this is just a joke, but his mother is right, you should finish your food, don’t waste it. Be grateful for the food that you have. And you don’t become ‘overweight’ because of cleaning your plate, you become ‘overweight’ because you put too much on your plate. Just be mindful, put only a little on your plate, finish it up, and don’t waste food.

  4. This is so true, we were taught, in Scandinavia, to be thankful for our food and eat up the plate, because children in Africa had no food!! And we grew up thinking we somehow did a good job eating even if we didn't like the food. I worked in preschools in the 80's and there we also used it "eat your food, think about children who has no food in Africa!!" So yes, it is true, we were taught that by eating up our food we'd help,or at least symphatized, with starving children in Africa…
