  1. My mom supported a Uyghur girl from elementary school through her second year of college. She witnessed the changes in Xinjiang firsthand. Initially, the girl’s father was unemployed and solely focused on practicing religion. One day, the girl’s mother convinced him to attend a 'camp' to learn professional skills. After completing the program, he found a job, and their financial situation improved significantly. My mom eventually stopped supporting the girl when she learned that the family could now afford an iPhone.

  2. Mehdi Hasan, you keep interrupting him and that's rude of you. Let it be known that democracy has not worked in many countries of the world. Even in the United States, many citizens don't trust the system.

  3. Victor Gao has no worries about people disappearing in an unjust system without any rights. He should consider that the same could happen to him after this interview and his replacement would have no worries either.

  4. Yeah, yeah, freedom to insult thats all Western freedom of speech is about. They want to export stupid culture to every place, country and locality. If the country does not accept it then its painted as lack of freedom of speech.

  5. "why are you persistent in ruling places that dont want to be rules by you" asks the British 🤣🤣🤣 oh comeon pot calling the full stop punctuation black..

  6. Watching The CCP f*ck up when they try to pull the wool over people's eyes, and then get humiliated in front of people with brains and EVEN a scholar who fully supports them, and then proceed to try and send their wumao into the comments only for them to get out commented by the REAL youtube viewers… that puts a warm feeling in my heart XD. I'm gonna be rewatching this interview just to watch Victor Gao slowly realize he's about to fired and probably dragged off to wherever his "Friend" is for quite some time lmao.

  7. To be fair, they should listen to some Uyghur and Tibet people’s voice, at least at this moment they’re majority of their ethics but not the people lived abroad. And another thing they have to do is to stick to the “facts”, if people don’t have consensus on what they believe, it will be a disaster to have discussions like this.

  8. Terrible host, rude as well as prosecutorial in manner.

Mehdi's loaded questions and prejudices are obvious. Victor Gao should have rephrased the loaded questions before answering him.

Mehdi seems hostile because the PRC doesn't allow the same unbridled individual freedom as in the West.

He is trying to push his idea of the Western electoral model as the better political system for the Chinese.

Surprised Al Jazeera supports such standard of interview.

The Uyghur, Tibetan and HK "refugees" picked to speak among the audience obviously are not the type that would or could accept the PRC political system. So don't expect any objective comments.

To get a balance perspective, Mehdi should go to these regions in PRC and ask those who remain behind in Xinjiang, Tibet and HK if they share the same angst as these refugees among his audience or guests.

  9. Why don’t Muslim countries condemn China 🇨🇳 for oppression of Uyghur Muslim in China 🇨🇳. China committed horrendous crimes against Uyghur minorities. Communist doesn’t respect religious freedom, China must deal with force , Taiwan and Tibet is not part of China 🇨🇳

  10. I don't know where you got the data on the so-called concentration camps in Xinjiang, but I have never seen them in Xinjiang, and the Chinese government has not banned anyone from entering Xinjiang. If you really want to know Xinjiang, please go to Xinjiang to have a look

  11. Get your dirty grease hands off Taiwan, China. Taiwan is not a part of China. Taiwan was a part of the Netherlands, Spain, Japan, and Chin Dynasty. But Never be a part of greedy Peoples Republic of China before in history. Spain, Netherlands, Japan and Chin Dynasty who ever ruled Taiwan never said that Taiwan is a part of it. Only Greedy PRC did. PRC should be a part of Mongolia.

  12. in China there is one person on the ballot paper, how many are there in the US? 2? 3? …. not much of a democracy is it? US is obviously a little better in terms of free speech and allowing a capitalist model and all the rest but still the rulers at the top are the deep state, military industry, and other big corps and global multinationals…

  13. Good points from Mehdi but sometimes you have to let people finish their thought. You can’t just constantly interrupt because you feel like you’re right. Let him finish his point he is making and then respond. Just a thought from my observation.

  14. What about the black slavery? What about Africans? What about arab countries? Look at what the white people doing in our world. And you're pointing your fingers on china.

  15. 😂 well no matter what you say American government is more worst than china. How many countries did America invaded destroys those counties. Please open your eyes then how about Euro?? Please

  16. With China's several thousand year long filosofical culture, seems to be over-shadowed by this CCP party, lying and stubborness, and not less delutional than Putin him self. Totally isolated population, and how they abuse AI to do total surveilance and control of the population. Such regimes are just doomed to fail sooner or later. The question is how much damage a such regime like CCP could oppose on the population and their culture, and to other countries around the world with this belt and road initiative.
