The conversation only got slightly heated when Adama Dieng of the ICC focused on explaining the procedural technicalities that were supposedly dictating the United Nation's official stance on the carnage taking place in Gaza. The other panelists felt that the United Nations has not been consistent in calling out war crimes over time. Indeed, the United Nations didn't appear to have a problem with alleging that Hamas "uses civilians as human shields," basically repeating Israel's unverified allegations. If the United Nations were consistent, it would refrain from repeating Israel's allegations until it first goes through legal proceedings. If the legal system has to determine the merit of accusations made against Israel, surely the same has to apply to allegations made against Hamas — no?
Biden and Blinken are not exercising sufficient pressure on Israel to mend its ways so its up to countries like South Africa to get an independent tribunal like the ICJ to adjudicate on the matter and provide some guiding perspective
