  1. Check out the aptera solar EV. It’s not out yet, but it is going to start at $25,000 and have ~400 miles of range with 40 miles per day from the solar panels on the roof. It’s a three wheeled two seater, but it is a $25000 EV with one of the better ranges out there.

  2. This is literally a glorified scooter. It’s something you use to commute to work and that’s it. You’d have to be crazy to spend $34000 on a commuter car. It’s a car you have to buy in addition to your normal car.

That’s the problem. It needs to be comparable to a gas car equivalent. It needs to have as much range, charge in about the same time as it takes to fill a car with gas, have as many places to charge as there are gas stations, have as much room, all for pretty much the same price. If you can’t deliver on that, then EV’s will stay a toy for rich people and very environmentally conscious people. We can’t fight climate change if the general population can’t adopt the new tech. There are no incentives to buy electric vehicles right now. You pay more for a more inconvenient car it’s that simple. The average person isn’t going to adopt something like that.

It doesn’t need to be $25000. It just needs to be the same price as a gas-equivalent car. That’s about it. They will never be mainstream until they are exactly the same as gas cars as far as price and convenience and the only difference is that they are electric. Nobody is going to do calculus to figure out that they’ll save whatever amount of money on gas if they charge at home. They aren’t going to factor in the cost of maintenance and the cost of installing a fast charger in their house and the cost of electricity and the cost of gas and and and… if there’s a cheaper gas car, they’ll buy that one. So that’s the real goal. You can buy a brand new corolla for around $23000. It’s a no brainer. Why would I buy a Corolla and another $32000 commuter car? So that’s the rub. We need charging to be as easy as filling up your car with gas and we need the same range and we need the same starting price. You get that, and the revolution is complete. At that point, you can basically make gas cars illegal and most people wouldn’t mind.

  3. The MG4 EV is like $27,000 in my country. Smaller EVs need to be half that for the majority of people would consider switching from cheap $12,000 Toyotas and Daihatsus.

  4. i have an idea that will make the fiat a 3-seat vehicle, but with more legroom! so first we remove the back seat on the driver's side, we make the back seat on the front passenger side sideways, and boom! a viable 3-seater car! but idk if it will be safe or not…. can someone pls tell me?

  5. When i visited china, there were so many EVs and they're unbelievably cheap, I would honestly think they would outsell a majority of EVs if they were brought to the US. I know china is kind of a meme since things made in china aren't exactly top notch quality, but their EVs are no joke. There are gonna be people showing me videos of china EVs catching fire, but they take safety pretty seriously over there for the new EVs being made. plus, its not like many other EV brands don't catch on fire as well.

  6. The first thing you have to get rid of is technology. If it doesn't make the car go, charge, stop, be safe, or keep you out of the elements in reasonable comfort, it isn't needed. We don't need Android auto or anything Macintosh. We need a motor controller as our most technically advanced electrical component. No heated seats. No cameras. No audiophile quality sound. KISS! It's possible. One thing you don't understand is that your car is spying on you, sharing your information, and being loyal to the manufacturer, not the "owner". Be ready to buy it outright with all tracking and data mining omitted and documented in the agreement. There's no reason that your data should be sold by the manufacturer or dealer when you bought the car outright. The same people that want a $25K super computer and concert hall on wheels are the people who claim that $15/hour and 40 hrs./wk. is poverty. A car is a car. Let's keep it that way.

  7. The EVs in North America are way over priced as there’s no competition. That’s why USA will not never allow Chinese EV car makers coming to the market. Even for Tesla, $25000 could almost buy Model 3 in China.

  8. I've been living with the Volvo Ex30 for about 2 months with about 200 miles of range. Have a look at it, it was the cheapest and fastest EV in South Africa for a while. Well built and looks great. I'd like to hear what autofocus thinks of it, where I live Pretoria South Africa, it's a head turner, the experience is more like what MKBHD got with the Cyber truck.

  9. The Tesla model 3 starts at around 40, it is NOT under 40k. The same thing is true for the ioniq 6, in fact with that one we're already at an effective 44k. I dont know where he got his numbers from, but they're completely off. Also : "you have to use cheap materials" — no. Thats mostly wrong. Its true that you cant use full-alcantara interior for the base-model of a "cheap" e-car, but it certainly can be optional. You can use all of the normal, automotive-grade steel and plastics for literally anything – its just that you cant use materials which are extremely, massively overpriced. These are two completely different things. Im beginning to doubt marques' capability to review cars.
Also : quite a few of the "small" e-cars are completely overpriced pieces of sh*t – but there "are" exceptions and they dont even have any noticeable , "cheap" materials. You just gotta do your research.

  10. It's possible but no luxuries just basic which people will not want even under mileage in order to travel further u will have to pay money so I don't think they will sell
