Inside The “North Korea” of Africa 🇪🇷: How It Really Is (#174)
You may not have heard of this country, but perhaps you’ve seen it by another name: “the North Korea of Africa”. But that doesn’t quite tell the full story. There’s nowhere like Eritrea in Africa, or in the world for that matter. It’s a place where everyone must serve in the military, a place where most people have never used the…

Eritrea! One of the hardest countries in the world to visit, I made it. Now it's time to make the most of it.
The cross looks so good on you 👍 you killed me with the i dont know if we are talking about the same thing… 🤣🤣🤣
I met an Eritrean in Texas and told me the story when he went to Asmara university and how they took over it and how they were treated. He fled and even getting almost sniped for fleeing his own country at the border. He mentioned how difficult it was to travel from one city to another (required permission) to visit other cities with the country itself. Seeing footage from Sabbatical and speaking Tigrinya made me think about this story(Ghebremariam). I'm glad he came here, he studied very hard and has been doing very well for himself. I'm sure he misses his hometown of Asmara & probably his remaining family too despite being in a mich better situation for himself. 😢
rip nispey hussle cuh a real street banga!
Always been very intrigued by Eritrea and I knew nothing about it apart from hearing it was war torn. Well it doesn't look war torn, and it actually looks a cool and interesting place to visit!
Great upload! Very interesting indeed!
Thanks!
As a tourist, I would love to go there, but being a resident of this country is a horror.
Once ur country has the black, there is no turning back.
I’m British 🇬🇧I been once in Eritrea 🇪🇷 I love the weather and the culture and unfortunately there’s not enough freedom for the people of Eritrea had potentially to run the country cos of their political policies don’t go forward but still the country is gorgeous
Shame the regimes??
man this is so interesting. i am argentinian, from buenos aires, and yeah we have quite the italian heritage here. the italianesque accent of some of the eritreans in the video sounds a lot like the way my grandparents used to speak lol, we have that in common. i hope they can get over their oppresive government.
The Taxi guy wasnt ripping u off, he was saying 70 for a private the 10 is for like a Uber pool style, and sice you said 30 he picked up others. When i was in Eritrea I also paid 70
All People in Eritrea 🇻🇳🇪🇷
The Eritrean lady said it was the Eritrean governor of electricity who subdivided his home to smaller homes, not the Italian governor. Makes sense that Asmara looks like a southern Italian city if Italy wanted to model the city after its own style during the colonial period. Appreciate your coverage of all these lesser known places to North America. My best to the people.
Dude come back 2024,,,, you've bn lost
Makes sense Toronto is listed at the hotel; we have plenty of Eritreans, Ethiopians, and Somalians.
Eritrea is the perfect example of if it is not broken then dont fix it.
I was born and raised in front of the ruins of war place. Just literally 20 seconds from there! I miss it
Your travels are welcome in AUSTRALIA 🇦🇺🐨🦘
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Eritrea 🇪🇷 is a ghost country
Looks like there's lock down in the city?… So scarce
Asmara/Eritrea is much more safer than Washington DC, New York, Chicago, Detroit, Los Angeles, San Francisco & many more US cities.
But with your Western inflated egoes & misplaced ambitions, obviously you will NEVER get to accept the bitter truth.
Therefore, enjoy the rest of your journey, you may finally end up learning something different than your Western media had been feeding your brain for a long time.
Welcome to Eritrea! 😊
Kkkk crazy 🤪 😜 😳 staff
The worst than North Korea dictator in the world isaias
Now, just empty, it is
Because if dictator no people in the street
What happens When the elements take what's left of the developed areas? They need developers, builders, engineers, and education to secure a future city, or they will return to bush life much like native Americans. I am half Cherokee and my father said nothing of value was taken from us when we wandered the land, humans did not own land. The white man has a desire to create clouds on the land. It was time to come out of the forest and develop civilization.
I find is so amazing at how my own neighbor that sees me everyday and practically knows me to some extent/level but yet has never invited me into their home. And here is Sabatical a complete stranger is being invited into this persons home with no problem or no hesitation lol
Eritrean 🇪🇷 money calls #Nakfa (Naqfa), no Nakba

I once met a guy from Eritrea in Vancouver Canada and always wondered about that country that I had never heard of before. Glad you showed it to us. I hope to be able to visit Eritrea and do some vlogs there one day too.
Bro does not change his close..he thinks it's a smart move he be moving around looking homeless cause he assumed people may ask him for money if he dressed normal 🤐🤐🤐 the level of disrespect we're getting
GoldenEye reference was spot on
I'm new here. I've been to Cuba in 2015. As you point, the vibes of Eritrean people and city is similar to Cuban. But the Eritrean people looks more innocent in your video. Thank you for your interesting video.
So so clean and safe looking. No litter on the sidewalk.. Meanwhile in Kensington, Camden, the Tenderloin, skid row etc etc – streets are carpeted in filth. Which is truly 3rd world?
So so interesting. I have to admit I knew next to nothing about Eritrea.
However in my defence I did at least know it was a country in Africa, unlike the chap on a US TV quiz show I recently watched who, given several options, chose D – a gastroenterological condition.
My next destination is Salvador , do you have video on that?
I love this guy that spoils the end of Breaking Bad right away lmao
A true traveler, others try to just feed their respective base countries gossip to stir the pot. Like another guy did in this divisive world.
The currency is the Nakfa (after the most destroyed town, which was strategic during the big war) and it is definitely, definitely more comparable at most to a Cuba of Africa. (And yet any such comparisons are out of context and don't make much sense. It is not about ideology, and Eritrea gained independence from a collectivist regime.)
There is a reason for its current phase, with dubious sanctions and mass emigration after 30 years of constant war helped by no-one. The point is that it is access to investment that creates a condition, not anything else. Being coerced to give up independence and have foreign countries effectively occupy yours' with military bases for investment's sake is how the world has been going.
And that's not going well.
Surely, any new nation may underestimate certain challenges. When your country's existence is threatened, that may lead to stringency, which isn't ideal for the economy. But comparisons with other states don't make any sense. It is a young nation, a nation which should be allowed to grow.
Like other countries in the region, investment without giving up self determination.
(Also since you mentioned the man, Haile Selassie is simply viewed as an Emperor, of Solomonic lineage, whose colonial reign wasn't as bad for Eritreans as Menghistu Hailemariam's regime. Yet even then, self determination was stomped out) Either way, the country needs to be collaborated with not condemned and cut off for its independence.
“Just trying to act like I belong here”
Cut to clip of only white guy in a stadium
The yard of Russian technicals and hardware is absolutely insane. Thank you for capturing.
So they barely use electricity?
Many tourists call themselves travellers but you man are a true traveller, your channel is incredible and you have shown me a world I didn't know existed.
" just like the real Italy " I'm just curious why you would make this statement ? Are there so many places in Italy where the aroma of urine permeates? Although I have never visited Italy myself I've seen other vlogs of people visiting Italy and I have never heard anyone allude to this condition. Please elaborate .
Diktator Eritrea
Commies are always so civilized. Now back to the chaos.
Your video is about the 3rd I've seen on Eritrea and each video gave the impression that Eritrea is stuck back in the 50's, or 60's. and the people seem to be split between Black Africans and Italians and maybe some Arabs also, one might say the best way to describe them is as Negropeans.
I follow all of your travels and videos and I really enjoy watching them and it's cool to learn about different countriescultures and even though I have to push my balls around with a gigantic wheelbarrow, I still don't think that I would have enough balls to travel to some of the countries that you have, in fact…. You're a pretty brave whiteboy 😂🤙🏼💪🏼😎👌🏼 keep it up brother!
This country voted with russia to keep the war going.
