Forming the food into a ball may be their idea of cleanliness, but no one can guarantee that their tongue, teeth, saliva on their lips does not touch the hand that dips back into the communal dish of food. This method of eating is ancient and was developed before we had microscopes and understood bacteria and microscopic organisms, and that they carry disease. I didnโt see any cell phones, computers or TVs in this dwelling. This is third world society.
I wouldnโt feel comfortable eating with hands (or even utensils) out of a communal dish anymore than I would share a toothbrush.

The dish is actually called KALDU and is typically from the Casamance region in the south of Sรฉnรฉgal. It is a bit the version of Yassa but with fish.
I swear itโs more delicious than Jollof rice๐ we call that cโest bon in English itโs good
