I have seen square waves before, which are only two waves in different directions at the shoreline, but it's not as big as this nonesense.

A riptide is when two currents form a flow of water that drags you out to sea, how can square waves do this? You wouldn't really go out to see with these from what I can tell.
Video didn't even fully explain what occurs in the phenomenon exactly or how it's dangerous.
Some comments mention a "riptide", it would've been useful to explain what that means or how it applies or what in particular makes it dangerous.

wow, this video is super informative and really well done! i had no idea about the dangers of square waves until now. but honestly, i wonder if the warning might be a bit overblown? i mean, aren’t waves just part of the ocean’s natural behavior? some people might just freak out thinking every irregular wave is a threat. just a thought!

How can you see if the waves are square if you're on the ground?? Up high you can see a long way off, on the ground not so much
I have photos of these waves in Lake Ontario just a few days before the eclipse 2024.
