I do not know if Romania was the first country to pay its debts but in 1980-1990 (I do not remember the exact year) Romania paid all the debts it had. But thus the population has the lowest standard of living in Europe.

African leaders know what needs to be done to liberate Africa out of poverty. But they don't and can't do it because they want to keep the people poor so that they can rule over them and be seen as demigods. Rampant corruption and mismanagement of public funds have been the driving force of majority if not all African leaders.
I wish Africans know their history. If they were not asshole to each other they could actually live in peace without white people money

It’s not a small country it’s large then the UK in km2 and has population larger than the 3 Scandinavian countries combined 24 million people.
But still impressive to pay your debt fast back, my country Denmark has a government debt of 28% of GDP which we are also paying back but it’s not important to pay it fast because we have the lowest possible interest rates so investing money and spending the profits from that to pay for the debt is a more profitable way, if you pay 1-2 % interest rates but your investment gives 8-12 % payback a year you can pay back your debt with the profit.
But if you are a poor country you have to pay higher interest rates and it’s not a option, just like in the bank loans poor people high risk high interest rates, not fun to be poor 🙃
Why can't South African leaders think like this too & stop looting millions and focus on becoming an independent country like this. We have mines of various minerals that can contribute towards this kind of initiative.

Maybe Traore could simply not be bribed by the multinationals as previous leaders and bureaucrats? If he doesn’t take the bribe, they have to adjust their contracts or they leave the country.
