Same happened to me after my wallet been stolen
I haven’t reported anything or done anything to try to get the thief
But After 2 months i received a call from a random guy telling me to head to a PD near me to get my things back after they arrested him.
The police here ain’t playing around.

Thank god you're ok, but the thing i always wanted to tell you is that you visit risky places and your mobile should not be exposed like that especially in poor areas like this, even driving a motorcycle in a road like this is risky for your life, and if want to travel in a road like this better be with someone, there are many much better, safer places in cairo you can visit on your own, please take care of yourself, and better not interact with strangers neither smiling or saying hi because thats where trouble might happen.. the key word is AVOID.

Egypt has to find a solution to reduce its rapidly growing population A.S.A.P.
Its about terrorism, they do not want terrorists or extremists to harm tourists because if that happens, it would hurt country’s income from tourism and this is the last thing Egypt wants at this time, Egypt as a country is having really tough times with its economy.
Also, there are many ares where Egyptian can improve which will reflect positively on their tourism income, they just need smarter people.

This place you went to get your phone was very dangerous especially for an American woman riding a motorcycle. These things are very strange for the Egyptian people. It is rare to find a woman riding a motorcycle. I am happy you are safe now and your phone is back ,, take care and stay save
