What started as a blue moonstone mine tour in the South of Sri Lanka soon turned in to a major tourist scam.
When a subscriber contacted me and proposed me to tour around Hikkaduwa with his uncle I thoughtm why not and agreed to it.

I worked for this sector for over 5 years, This is the awful truth though. 60% of this big scale Gem & Jewellry companies over value their products. So sorry for this experience, government Gem & Jewellry authority should take action to mitigate for these kind of scams.

All precious stones are a scam. These stuff can be easily spotted the is useless anywhere apart from jewelery.

But Gems do not has fixed prices…if has a small crack proce vary in big scale..at least u must aware 4Cs and and varity well before buy. If u don't know that youmay not buy.
If you don't feel rght you may leave it. It is not an FMCG for fix priced.

If you want to get a proper Gems Appraisal then go to place that is government certified not these small shops thats are looking to make buck out of you. Always they will under value the product. At the same time these big places they charge you more than actaul value. but like you found out most of the time they will take resposiblity for product they sell. Jewellery is work of art there is no fixed price. Its always better to pay more get genuin product than get ripped off for a fake.

First, if the shop is "over valuing" then that is not fair,
Secondly, gemstones value could be differ for many reasons, so it's always better to check it with an "authorized office" such as Government Gem Authority,
Thirdly, if you are concerning "fair trade" then you have to pay for the tour and activities they had provided- Also, you are making money by publishing those infotainment videos too, so you have to give the fair share to them too. I mean, if you are very much concern about "Fairness"
Also you had forgot to put a value for the "human made craftmanship", (which shows that in your video too)
Not sure what the scam was mate? You went there bought it and he refunded it! I think it’s either those other jewellers trying to scam you or you’re trying to fake a scam! Firstly you don’t need to buy these kind of items mate! I travel in Asia all the time and never buy materialistic things! We’re getting scammed everyday here in Europe starting from a simple coffee all the way to houses. So try and create some positive vlogs!

How can it be a scam? there isn't any RRP price marked. You bought it from a bigger showroom where prices are usually higher than other smaller places. You should have done your own research before you bought it. You are just crying for nothing. You must have earned thousand dollars by making this video at the same time misguiding other tourists.
