hi how to travel from luanda to soyo i plan to work in soyo
I definitely got offended by your food comments, but I don't blame you. I can understand how growing up on fake meat and radioactive potatoes in the US can render your taste buds in a near-dead state, so you don't recognize fresh produce and fish.
I don't hate on expats, but I don't like how the expat situation is very one-sided. You can come here, but we can't go over there, and if we are lucky enough to be an expat in one of your countries, we don't have the same perks as you. Like I said, very one-sided, but kudos to you for being on the lucky side.
I'm glad you enjoyed your time in our not-so-well-built buildings, how brave of you…
I must call out, to you is you put Brazil before angola. And completely ignored the fact that slavery happened. The reason why the cuisine is similar is because of the tribes that were taking in the transatlantic slave trade, those people groups brought their recipes and cooking techniques with them. Among the major countries during the transatlantic slave trade was Angola, Gabon, Nigeri,a Congo and Ghana… Which is why the food systems tend to overlap especially if you compare to Brazilian, Caribbean and even African-American food styles and flavor profiles. I think it's an important piece that you should certainly add because it removes the colonial ignorance from your rhetoric.
Melissa. There is poverty everywhere. There is an ENORMOUS amount of violence in the United States. There are people who make over 100k US dollars and are homeless. There are people who do not feel safe there. Not even children from other children. It's heartbreaking. There are places in the US that has trash in the streets and it stinks so bad. There is so much poverty in lots of places, but people are considerate enough to show the good parts of the country that they appreciate instead of showing videos that look like unicef propaganda. That is not to negate the fact that there is poverty in Angola like all places around the world. The company that built your development, was it an Angolan company or foreign? There are plenty of people in Angola who live in houses built by Angolans and do not experience the issues mentioned in your video. The food you described is not traditional Angolan food. Btw…Portuguese and Brazilian foods are delicious. There are places there that are not surrounded by the poverty shown in your video. Living there for 4 years or less while working in a company that provides you with the basics does not make you an expert or informed enough to make such videos to illustrate things there. Try using words such, "my experience in …". I do agree that life there is generally hard.
Ahhh Funge. The consistency of wallpaper paste and smell of old socks, and tastes worse than either.
Is it still $10 for a beer down at the Punto Final?
This video makes me "ew" as an Angolan and I can't pinpoint what exactly it is.
omg go outside or something
Expat 😂 you mean you where an immigrant
Also instead of you guys getting upset at the video uploader for just reporting her experience, instead you guys should be furious at the corrupt Angolan government who is the cause for all of this from the wealth gap, poverty and lack of good infrastructure(and the good ones only for the affluent), prices, etc that's been going on since the Dos Santos government. And lets not forget a mixed Portuguese elite class… And bringing up poverty in the USA(who the average person in poverty is living better than the average person in Angola) is not going to solve this issue. The POVERTY rate for USA is $14,000 a YEAR. The poverty rate for Angola us $1.90 DAILY! And according to the World Bank 32.8% of the population is poor vs 11.5% for the USA. Also where are the SOCIAL programs for the poor in Angola? Where is Angola's homeless shelters? Or even food stamps? You guys are just upset that she shattered the DELUSIONS of Angola being this rich country in Africa. All I see is kneejerk reactions.
Nice to see this country
The Poverty and lack of healthcare in Angola is a tragedy!
US food is mostly Gmos and has a lot of fat and sugar. Your food isn’t that great either. Many cities in the US have a lot of homeless people living under bridges with drugs problems. Angola doesn’t have gun violence like the US. KFC is junk food.
fyi next time dont say a countries food is bad because you come off like a POS, its one thing to say you dont like it but its another to say it isnt good at all. Also the US has the same pay by the weight at buffets in plenty of places so before you make a video bashing a countries way of doing things do some research first.
They do have a pay by the weight place in Marietta, GA. It is actually a Brazilian spot.
Can you remebr the kg price for cucumbers and tomatoes?
F@ck !_!
We do NOT MIX food unless it’s cooked together, like meat and beans. Some people may prefer to do so, but it is not cultural.
Great video! Don’t listen to all the butt hurt privileged Angolans who can’t acknowledge the real situation of their country. As an Argentinian, you did a great job with your videos on argentina, they were accurate and very informative on the day to day life, it’s clear that you not only lived here, but you did your research, so i trust you did the same for Angola.
3 years and you are an expert!! Is better to say "In my experience".
The thing about Angola, and most of Africa, is it keeps going backwards. Just when you think this is a shithole and it cant get worse, trust me – wait 10yrs and it will get worse.
SHARE BULLSHIT PERIOD, I SEE with my very OWN EYES, poverty is happening in U.S.A. check Portland, Oregon, Philadelphia, New York City SHARE Caucasians homeless, living in the Streets, So, DO NOT stress on Africa homeless, TAKE care of your own Country homeless
This lady has an agenda… Africa for Africans
3000 us dollar salary in luanda is it good? But free of accomodations foods etc.
Luanda is one of the most beautiful cities in Africa, and look what she starts with….the slums. Then she goes on to criticize the local food…forgetting the artificial, toxic GMO mess she left in the US…when will it stop!!!!
Do not recommend this channel
I’d like to see Angola , interesting that American fast food have set up shop in Angola.Did you see Starbucks.. Poor Chinese building . Put up very cheaply.
It is really sad to see wealth going to IOCs while the population starve to death.
Sorry…. But Portuguese restaurants in the US do very well. Your food tastes are at best VERY questionable. With that said so are the rest of your perceptions of Luanda
You were here for over 3 years and saw and learnt nothing. Its not a EXPAT COMPOND its a condominium, estates (gated community) you have them everywhere word choices are horrible.
A question, why united states and European people don't call themselves INMIGRANTS… they use expat
Please help me in getting jobs there
Hey melissa you super
White people when they talk about Europe they don’t talk about poverty also when they talk about US they don’t talk about poverty BUT when they talk about Africa their main topic is bad news. We are okay with our Africa b**ch leave us alone. Go to USA and make a video on poverty
Hi
Hw can one get offshore (cook) jobs in Angola?tnx
what about malaria in Luanda?
Hey there Melissa,
Quick question because I couldn't find it on my Google search. Is there a currency exchange in the airport?
This 3itch look like she only drank sodas for 3.5 years just to avoid Angolan bottled water lol🤣😅
Why is that the picture you chose for your head picture? I’d you lived in LA would you post pictures of the homeless and all
The trash on the street? Smh y’all are truly vile.
I'm Angolan and I live in Luanda
Living here is not easy
"Western accommodations?"
Angola has had such buildings since ever. My family owned properties there since the 60's and houses like that have been around way before that in Angola, Cape Verde, Sao Tome, etc.
And those issues like cracks and leaks are mostly found in houses built by the chinese as the materials that they use are incredibly cheap. Also if your idea of Angolan food is eating rice, fries, meat and veggies or just funge then you're deadass wrong. One of the few countries I went and had easily the best seafood and cuisine. Generalising an entire's country's gastronomy out of your poor choices of restaurants is so funny. You are so misinformed it's sad.
And expacts did not have to bring their gastronomy as angolans themselves own pizzerias, burger shops, indian restaurants and even kebab shops.
The only westernised thing here was the stupidity. At least try to be more informed before making a video because I don't doubt that your lifestyle was condo-restaurant-shopping like any foreigner and the city was a zoo that you'd see through your fancy car windows.
Is your husband related to Billy Zane?
Europeans and Americans are usually not sincere when they talk about Africa
