  1. Looks delicious, and will add it to my library as I would most likely make this in winter months! My mom made this kind of stew, and we did not have much when growing up. Born in the early 60's, a few years after my dad came from the Azores to Canada, you can say my parents' life was about struggling, yet working for the home they bought, always food on the table no matter what it was for a meal, we always thought it was great! We had Carnation milk to drink, rarely had meats like roasts or pork… never ate ribs or wings or steaks, in fact didn't know what that was! We didn't even get Kraft Dinner, it was a packaged bag of macaroni! We only had a few sets of new clothes, a few toys for Christmas and Birthdays and 3 kids sharing one little tiny bedroom. But we grew up all happy, respectful and appreciated the food, the tiny house, whatever our parents did for us to keep us alive! This generation we live in could never understand because they think poor means you live on the streets and are homeless. We didn't see back in the day what we do today so many homeless on the streets, no jobs yet businesses are short of workers. So yes, for the fans that think it is funny you call this "poor mans stew", it really is!
