I've noticed a few comments saying that it's a lot of work. Not at all. It may come across as hard work in the video but that's because I wanted to show the traditional method first, then tried the second method which is easier and you saw that it worked really well.
If you can buy ogiri from Nigeria, by all means do that. Once I finish using these ones I made, I will continue to buy from Nigeria because I travel to Nigeria often and a small tub of ogiri lasts for years but for those who can't get ogiri from Nigeria for any reason (this request actually came from this group of people), please I encourage you to prepare it, it's easy with the second method and the right appliance. All you need is patience! 😂
Wrap with uma or banana leaves. If using banana leaves, remember to wilt it first: https://youtu.be/2_cXO-NT-qE If you don't have leaves, use aluminium foil bags: https://youtu.be/MVdFyxK8Qd4
If you preserve it for 7 to 14 days it would have softened and cured
TThanks for sharing
Can castor seed ogiri be prepared in like manner.
That is, can it be grinded raw first , rapped in uma leaf and cooked
btw you can use miso paste to substitute it has a similar flavor
U should have added water while blending the egusi soup in the blender
Pls can second method come out well if I want to start as business
In my Town, Oji river – LGA, we call caster oil seed, kpikpi. We also call ugba, akpaka.

I'm a bit disappointed that you didn't use the castor bean seed as that is what's used in the village…also what's that Ogili the elderly women make with Ash and a bit of saliva?Pray tell thankyou❤
Aunty Flo, good day ma. I always enjoy and learn from your videos. Please i have a question about this process for making ogiri igbo. I only have grounded egusi leaves. Can i still use grounded egusi seed powder in making ogiri igbo?
These long God damn commercials are killing me. I don't think I can watch anymore your videos.
From Imo, we call it ugba
Sis Flo!!! You are awesome! You can also prepare ot using cotton seeds, you can always use a bit of your old stock to kick start the new batch with the requisite bacteria for the fermentation process
Well done, nwayi di nma. You were wonderful in your presentation. Your comments and demonstration of the pungent smell of the Ogiri was 100% authentic Igbo. I loved your video so much and may try your method in a far away future. Love from London.

This is exactly Ogiri Ijebu. Made from Egusi. And we call it Ogiri too. We don't really use Iru that Yoruba people use (fermented locust beans)
I didn't see where you use castor seed.
It's called laara in yoruba.
Can I use foil paper to cook it?

Idanre people of Ondo state use Egusi to make their ogiri which is used to make okro and vegetable soups. I've seen my aunt make Ogiri with a similar process as you did.
