Never eaten Oxtail before? This is a great way to start! With delicious spices and fresh vegetables, this dish will make your mouth water for more! Potjie is truly a South African favorite.

Potjie is usually a small cast iron pot with a lid, typically having three legs, for use over an open fire.

  1. No red wine. No spicing the meat while browning. No frying onions. Pot not sitting even. Too much liquid initially. Adding more water with no stock. Pot is boiling. Should be simmering (can see the meat is kind of tough at the end). Whole carrots not chopped. No potatoes. No rice or pap. And PASTA!!! Damn bru. You really did a weird one here😂 but hey you know each potjie to each man is his own creation. I definitely would have had a good taste of that though

  2. Good afternoon, I saw your channel and checked it out. Very nice indeed, I just subscribed. We are expats from South Africa, been living in Huntesville, Texas for 33 years. I still have and use my #3 pot which I have had for 53 years. Brought it to Texas with us.

  3. thats not a potjie, its stir fry,you dont stir a potjie and you dont add pasta, rice or pap with it,you make it separate, and pack your ingredients in layers, mushrooms last!

  4. I like the way the video started. This is a potjie. A the end, Enjoy. I would have added: This is a delicious potjie. ……………… Nou is ek lekker honger.

  5. I emigrated to the USA 36 years ago. Guess what my only article of hand luggage was? A drie poot potjie (3 legged cast iron pot). The other passengers and crew thought I was mal (crazy). Still use it.

  6. getting ready to fire up the potjie this weekend and this recipe looks like straight fire! I turned a bunch of fellow South African that live in the States on to your channel this weekend at a Braai in Austin, Texas. Everyone made their own Borewors and we had a great time. All that was missing was a potjie pot. I'm working my way through all your videos, you are doing a great job preserving the culture thanks for taking the time to do it right.

  7. Thank you so much for sharing 🎈 please tell is more about your equipment. What brand and size pot is it? How do you clean and care for it? Much appreciated. 🌱
