The Congolese Tutsis are not recognized as Congolese by the government in Kinshasa. They have been threatened with ethnic cleansing for decades, which is one of the reasons the M23 is said to have been created (and used to defend this group of people). The Tutsis inhabiting eastern Congo were part of the population in what is the present-day DRC when the country became 'independent' in 1960. If the leaders of the DRC are reluctant to accept this fact, logic dictates that they have to agree to give up that part of the country because Congolese Tutsis belong to that area of the country! You, the hosts, should have asked your guest why Congo is unwilling to recognize the Tutsis as Congolese, which, if that were to happen, could have alleviated the present situation to some extent if not significantly.
