How I Got a Cyber Security Job With No Experience in 2024

Can you get an entry level job in Cyber Security without having experience in 2024? The entry level job market in Cyber Security is extremely challenging right now. Before I got hired as a SOC analyst I had to learn a lot of things on my own, and I want to share my experience through the whole process from college graduate to Cyber Security…

  1. Being willing to relocate sounds great on paper but in this economy even at the entry level jobs it won't be enough to cover the 550 (6.6k a year) a month rent costs + expense's and insurances. And most big companies are operating in large city where 550 is a minimum if you are lucky enough.

  2. I am not saying what this YouTuber is relaying in this video is false. but where and in what reality is a company hiring someone with zero experience and no college degree? If he knows someone who got him the job then sure I can believe this. but someone with no college degree and no experience getting this type of job when there are so many other candidates that are more qualified than him really makes me suspicious of this content. I am not saying what he did is impossible, especially the number of applications of job positing he applied to but again it is hard to believe with no degree and no experience unless he knows someone even with a comptia security + certification.

  3. Relatable, I had a years experience in IT half of that was penetration testing in a junior position. The firm I was working for shut down and laid off all the employees and I haven’t been able to land a job in IT since. Focusing on Certs now and improving my CV

  4. cyber is such a broad field, pentesting, blue team, red team, purple team, networking, IT, etc. I'm an engineer well into my career but I dabble with pentesting because its fun. I could never work in a soc analyst job because I would get bored. But I would love being on a purple team or even GRC team. Just gotta read up, learn, dabble with hackathons and online learning and see what you like. The entry IT tip isn't terrible, it'll give you some income while you can talk to the security people and learn from them.

  5. Well I applied to UPS as a package handler while doing volunteer work and picking up certs. UPS has a huge IT department and now I'm in helpdesk. Sometimes you have to have a humble start.

  6. The answer is no. I have a 4 year degree in cybersecurity and applied for over 1,000 jobs only to hear offers from IT positions. I begrudgingly took an IT job to pay the bills and am unhappy working in IT instead of cybersecurity. Seriously, why did I get a degree in a field that isn’t entry level/a 4 year degree isn’t good enough. I wish I would’ve been warned about this in hs/college. Hate my life and wish I was in cyber fr. Also I think this guy is lying because I have a 4 year degree and don’t even get interviews when I apply for “entry level cybersecurity” jobs…

  7. Idk how It happened with me but I applied to 1 job and I got that, I didn’t had any experience at that time right now I have 8 months of experience working as Security Analyst.

  8. I graduated with a computer engineering degree. Worked a year as a software engineer (creating tools to filter bots).
Can i get a cybersecurity job without any certificates?

  9. As a SOC Analyst or generally in the blue team field you should have tagged
    – Cyberdefenders
    – LetsDefend
    – blue team labs online
as well, these are great resources specializing only in the defensive trainings
