How Female Dominance Evolved in Hyenas

Spotted hyenas live in matriarchal societies led by alpha females, unlike most other mammals. In these clans, females rule over males. In fact, in a clan’s strict hierarchy, adult immigrant males rank last. This video takes a look at how females have become queens of the pack.

  1. Why do people always compare animals with humans under documentaries like these? For god's sake, hyenas are matriarchal because that's how their society works, not because females are superior to males, and definitely NOT because it's "gender empowering"
    No, men, you're not chimpazees
    No, women, you're not hyenas
Stop comparing yourselves to irrational animals

  2. Just a Quick reminder to whome didn't get It, female hyenas are not women. Homo sapiens females are often call women, but Is more a cultural meaning Word rather then a biologically scientific One. Male and female are scientific termes used tò indicate which part of the sexual fecondation you are covering and basically whether you have a penis or a vagina, the meaning behind man and woman varyes subject tò time and space of a given culture of homo sapiens. Hyenas, being mammals so relativily close tò US in Evolution , stretches of course the previous point but does it not benieth its bounderis

  3. I seen a more ruthless video of females rapping the males with their penis. Male hyena get treated like 💩
I think thats why god made man the dominate species. I cant even imagine women being the dominant ones

  4. The same way women evolved in the gynocentric modern world… Through feminism and sexual liberation… Hyenas protested the patriarchy and over time females dominated.

  5. Actually, from the reading I have done on animal behaviour (which to be fair is just a hobby I have, and I am by no means an expert), it hobestly seems like most social mammals (most, not all) either are female dominated (as in the females are the center of the social group, the ones keeping the hirarky in order, and the ones who make desitions), or that males and females are equals (like with wolves, where there is no major difference in behaviour between the two sexes). I dunno why this isn't talked about more, since it is rather obvious once you actually look into how different animals behave.

So like, I guess the actuall difference between hyenas and other similar mammals such as lions, is more about just how aggressive they can be towards the males, and that most likely comes from how harsh their enviroment is and their odd "family system."

I dunno how hyenas behave in captivity (yet), but I guess it would be a much more chill enviroment for everyone involved.

  6. With how submissive the males are, is it likley that a male hyena would r*pe a female? I bring this up to point out that I dont think the psudopenis was to combat r*pe. Unless this was developed back when they got r*ped when males were more dominant? Long long time ago? Anyways… just a thought. The psuedo penis facinates me lol

  7. Just so you know, about 15% of males DO choose to stay with their birth clan and rank above any female their mother ranks above. So, they aren't really "matriarchal", but in fact matrilineal. Gender determines absolutely nothing by default.
