  1. Attieke is made from Cassava and is Brazilian; the Portuguese (who introduced Cassava to West Africa) are responsible for bringing this with them.

    Cassava is not native to Africa (neither is Maize/Corn)

    I am African; I speak from a position of researching the roots of now-common African foods to understand Colonial/pre-Colonial trade influences.

    In the northeast of Brazil it is called macaxeira; in the south, aipim or mandioca.

    The most popular recipe in Brazil using cassava flour closest to Attieke is Farofa.
