You can blame property developers with DEEP pockets and homeowners who have that "Not In My Backyard" (NIMBY) attitude on why there is a critical shortage of affordable housing units in California. Property developers have bought off municipal politicians who pass bylaws restricting affordable housing units from being built. Property developers have bought off both state Democrats and Republicans to oppose building affordable housing units.
Then there is the NIMBY crowd of homeowners who react with outrage whenever talk of building affordable housing units in their neighborhoods happens, thus they don't get built. All the land mass is occupied in neighborhoods that already have affordable housing units, no more can be built there unless you start building high rises.

Now their democrat failed policies have made it nothing more than an extension of skid row in Los Angeles. Restore San Diego, Vote Republican. You are right about one thing though. Housing prices and rental prices are way too high. Greedy land lords drive out good people by raising prices higher and higher. It's never enough for them. And since it's located right on the Mexican border, the democrats thought it was a good idea to open the border and let illegal aliens in as well. The people were already struggling in SD. How do you think they feel when they see immigrants getting free medical, housing, and many other benefits while the residents of SD get no help at all. First, close the border. Second bring down the cost of living to something that matches local middle class wages. Lastly, let the Police do their jobs. No more looking the other way. Social constructs are not going to work under democrat agendas. You keep talking about strategies and social programs and community studies but you offer no actual plans. You're using a lot of big fancy college level vocabulary to say the obvious but have not actually offered a tangible solution. How then would you do these things. What is your plan.
