  1. The Manila North Cemetery was formerly part of La Loma Cemetery but was separated as an exclusively Catholic burial ground. The cemetery formerly known as Cemeterio del Norte was laid out in 1904.

Glistening skyscrapers and Spanish colonial architecture merge in the Philippine capital of Manila. Tucked away in a corner of this overcrowded coastal metropolis, the Manila North Cemetery has stood for more than 100 years. The cemetery’s stacked tombs house approx one million of the dead. The cemetery is also home to some of Manila’s poorest residents – residents who display the resourcefulness needed to survive here. An entire way of life has flourished in death’s midst. And the people here maintain a delicate equilibrium, between life and death, rich and poor, hope and despair.

  3. 26:10 in the early 1990s. the 500 and 1000 peso bill are newly inroduced to the country. 100 peso bill then was the highest currency of the philippines. 200 peso bill was invented late in the game.

  4. My heart aches seeing kids living at the cemetery, yet they still smile and are grateful for what little they have. I fell shame comfortable living in SoCal stressing which job to take.

  5. This documentary exposes the reality in the Philippines. I am a Filipino and I can attest to the veracity of this documentary. The Philippines is a country of 110 million people. Majority of the people are poor and have experienced involuntary hunger in their lives once in a while. Lack of employment opportunities and low-paying jobs hamper the economic development of this country.

  6. It would've been better if they remained in the rural areas. While there's not much to earn, at least they can learn how to make their own food and home with their lands, instead of messing with other people's properties in the city. And not to mention they are the cause of overpopulation, breeding as many kids as they want who will be the next generation that will suffer the same fate as their parents. It's also kinda disrespectful living in the cemetery imo (that place should only be for the dead).

  7. GOVERMENT IS THE NUMBER 1 RESPONSIBLE for this problem, letting them to grow even though they dont have resources income for their everyday living. luck of knowledge and family planning

  8. I lived & worked in Manila for 4 years & Cebu for 3 years. The government has done little to lift the people out of poverty. Many politicians are corrupt & are there to make money for themselves. For example when a new road is to be constructed the cost of the road includes money paid to the mayor & the barangay captain. The current President (Marcos) is the son of the dictator (Marcos). His father was thrown out by a revolution known as People Power). He was replaced by Mrs Aquino whose husband lived in exile. When he returned to the Philippines, he was assassinated at the airport when he came out of the plane. Mrs Aquino didn’t do much for the country. The country has poor infrastructure (railway) & roads etc. Traffic jam is part of life, all day long in Manila.
The best a Filipino can do is migrate to other countries. Many Filipinas (women) are looking to marry a foreigner to get out of Philippines.

  9. The older gentleman who was playing the guitar while singing at the same time during the last 6 minutes of this video is a good singer. I definitely WASN’T expecting that at all. 😮🙂

  11. sad to see this video but i didnt knew that my tears was fall down seeing them like this..some richest people are really dont care about them..that is not human being life.thanks for sharing.

  12. Wrong: You cannot show your love and respect to your loved ones when they are already in the grave or tomb. When your loved ones are still alive, you have to show all the ways to make them happy, respect them and love them.
