Dan wouldn't survive in history because of all the food XD
This was a great documentary. I love that he is actually tasting the food vs just talking about it
Andean tapestry in the Aztec section? Not sure about that one. Looks like a poncho straight from Peru or Bolivia
Crap! Poor research, poorly executed. Just crap.
You can blame the Hormel Spam factory in Austin, Minnesota, USA for that delicacy.
Unwatchable! People talking with food in their mouths, yuck!
there is no way he just rolled that cig
When I was in the military, I often ate my MREs cold as I didn’t have the patience to deal with the little heater lol. Would’ve taken just 5 minutes or so but I’m still that way with canned soups 😂. It doesn’t have to be warm to keep me alive.
Dan Snow is such a Legend. Great work, Sir!
That was not proper dripping
I think Medieval pottage and bread sounds fine, but those pickled herring looked absolutely disgusting!
This is so awesome!!!
Hard tack is not meant to be eaten in its hard state.
Sorry, but the part about medieval food was utter nonsense. 1. Why should they serve the stew cold when it is boiled in a kettle? 2. Salt was pricey but affordable. Almost every household used salt or how do you explain the high salt demand and the resulting wealth of salt dealers and mine owners. 3. Stop promoting the myth about dirty water. It is BS. You are saying they rather drank beer because of the sewage?? Now explain what is the main ingredient of beer? Would be a pretty disgusting beer. The beer they drank is not the same as we know it today. It was their version of a softdrink. Generally, the people in the middle ages created less waste and were way more hygienic than people during the antiquity and new age.
Sweet potatoes are from a different plant family from potatoes.
I bet the tribes were laughing: "this Emperor wants parsnips instead of gold, we're rich!!"
Interesting. But minus points for talking whilst eating, slapping your lips together 🤮🙉🙉
Were you never taught table manners?
Believe or not, spam is extremely popular in Hawaii due to their experience with it in WW2. You can still get spam, egg, and cheese sandwiches for breakfast there.

I love this channel! I watched these as they released, but its fun watching it as a compilation (even if the poor bloke is eating eel as I type this, that is bravery on a whole new level)
I admit though, I wouldn't know about History Hit if it weren't for the Timeline and War Stories channels (loyal viewer of both)… but Mr. Snow, Mr. Holland, Ms. Janega, those two boys that do the "could you survive _____" series (forgive me, their names escape me atm but it was watching them fire guns with Jonathan Ferguson that got me into the Royal Armories channel), etc – this channel rules!!!!!
I believe, technically, the Victorian period began in 1837 when Victoria became queen and ended when she died in 1901. Then don't forget Edward VII from 1901-1910. Best do a fact check on that. A bit disappointed that a history show would get that so wrong. Makes me mistrust the accuracy of the other information presented.
Sweetbreads are brain not stomach parts
Ewww! Who eats SPAM straight out of the can? Dan Snow does. Next time fry the stuff. Better yet fry it in butter and brown sugar!
Need to have a better microphone for him. I can barely understand anything he's saying, and it's not the accent either, it's just poor quality for whatever is picking up his voice. I really wanted to listen to this video too but can't with how bad the audio is (and I even turned the volume up too and still can't understand).
Came for the cheese, stayed for the history…..
Unreasonably disappointed not to see any trace of Max in this–especially the hardtack segment. iykyk.
I'm intrigued that Dan Snow, who's as British as they come, pronounced tomato as “to-MAH-to”, but sweet potato as sweet “po-TAY-to” (33:03). 🤔 He loves the latter, has he even tried Japanese satsumaimo?? 🍠
I love experiencing history. Where can I get this Forced March?
A roman soldier would not lie down and eat, like a roman senator… Get your history straight…!
I loved the history of this, thank you. But as as someone with misophonia, can you please take consideration into either lowering the volume to or muting the mouth-eating noises? It made it utterly impossible for me to watch more than 10mins of this before I had to shut it off. I know the mic's pic it up as he's eating but it becomes all you can hear between the words he speaks (often with his mouth full, which also, ew?)
Why do the French like to eat snails?

Because they despite fast food!
Why did he not fold the end of the tortilla, an why was he holding it like a drumstick ?
Dan Snow has never heard of a cooker, a frying pan or a pot. HEAT THE FOOD FIRST MAN.
Dan: What did they eat in the Georgian era? Me: Excellent boiled potatoes, of course.
