  1. My brother, you are speaking TRUTH!!! My ex-husband and I always said that we would live on 1 income, and still have some money left over for savings. The other person’s check would also go into savings. It served us well, and even though we are no longer married, I still follow his advice. People not only buy expensive stuff that they can’t afford, but they make the fatal mistake of living off 2 incomes.

  2. Nigerians are materialistic indeed. They also care a lot about what people say about them.
This situation is so bad now in Nigeria, that cases of money rituals are on the increase.

In my early years, I made wise decisions. Such as paying off my student loans in 5yrs; my home mortgage in 6yrs; then paid cash for a strong used Volvo that I know will last donkey years. With that, I know I have nothing to fear if I lose my job.

Indeed I lost my job during the pandemic. Buy I'm not panicking, since my monthly bills are minimal. Imagine if I had to pay all of the above monthly: mortgage ($1,200), student loan ($500), car ($300). Total = $2,000/month. That is after-tax money. It means I have to earn about $2,600 just to cover those bills.

I don't know how we're going to re-calibrate the brains of Nigerians to start thinking differently about material things. It is also part of the reasons why our politicians are so greedy. Everybody wants to show off.

  3. So, Frank, there are a lot of factors we need to consider about this range.. how long (months) has he paid for and what he can recover… returning it might not be the option… he could sell and repay the balance to the garage and use the difference to buy another car

  4. Hi Frankie good morning, I like your videos, one thing I've learned on your videos is that " don't play God " when you live overseas and go back to visit , what ever you are saying goes out to every human being not only Nigerians

  5. Your channel teaches a lot about financial discipline, don’t ever stop! You might not know but you’re helping a lot of people. You see that small small Yoruba you chip in, damn I love it. “Iyan je bobo yi, Ori e ti daru” 😂 I had to rewind that part. People would let humans push them to their end, and they won’t pull you up when you’re sinking.

  6. To the one who know himself….Yes you with The Black Audi. Yes you! You may be in denial but, this is for you. You need your 'friends" to see you now and validate you as one of them. Buying expensive Live fish with the Boys….'See me now' with low key statements. This is for you…psychological damaged money-miss-road-financially ignorant. You put up a smoke screen & facade. Your car is always clean & spanking shining. However, inside the house is an eyesore. You invest in a depreciative piece of shiny metal but, lack the mind to invest in bricks & mortar that could yield. Its true, lack of parental direction and egoistic pride.

  7. For many outside the UK & US. These are usually the reasons for marital breakdown in the diaspora. When you both come struggling to having good jobs but, you've moved with certain groups with these status competition. You want self preservation of your outward status despite losing your job and struggling to secure another. You put your children and wife through Hell by keeping hold of this stoopid car that depreciates. You'd rather that your children receive rubbish education than give up material vanity stuff. You live a lie outside meanwhile your family are suffering. You are packaging yourself outside to be among the 'Big Boys'. Your car is a status symbol so that the respect. Buying Aso-ebi and the accessories with designer labels is your priority. Yet, you can't invest in your child's education. I can't understand this 'keeping up with the Joneses'. Unless, you are a Doctor – Registrar level upwards- that can never be unemployed ( in the diaspora) except that you are struck off, don't flex living a life of fakery or seeking peer validation because you want your peers to 'see me now'.

  8. I'm a mechanic here in the UK and I can testify that a simple repair on a Range Rover can easily get to £1000 and again these cars breaks down frequently even when they're new, I fix them all the time, the brother must return the car for the sake of his family.

  9. I don't wear clothes with obvious branding because I am of the mindset that these brands should pay me to be seen in their clothes, not me paying them to advertise for them.

  10. When you mentioned Bicycle, it reminded me of my time in China. Chinese will be riding bicycles, but when they come into the HSBC bank, they leave with sacks of money. That really taught me lots of things in life.

  11. The goal is to build an authentic lifestyle not tied to financial stress because you want to impress people who don't even care about you.
Wealth can be made up of many different assets. A car is not unless it is a collectible and rare in the world. Range Rover is not in this category of an asset. A lot of men's egos are causing financial ruins in a lot of relationships. Wise up fellas!

  12. Returning a vehicle in the middle of a contract is known as a voluntary repossession. It's unhealthy for your credit & can affect you for a lengthy period. Also it could have been informative to find out if the Range was a lease or purchase. Range Rovers have bad resale value & depreciate rapidly. Regardless, the individual seems to be keeping up with the jones.

  13. What is your Net Worth …
Net worth is the value of all your assets, minus your liabilities.
Some of us are in negative net worth…
While your income could help in wealth building, your spending habits gives you the speed to go further or backwards.
Some of us behave like we have hot charcoal in our hands when we have money… spend .. spend…. spend .

Ask yourself if I continue to spend this way in my productive years how will I fund my lifestyle in my none productive years if I don’t practice financial discipline and delay gratification.

Nothing wrong in living basic or frugal if and when you can.

  14. The guy should give up the car, they will only talk about you for a short while and move on. So many bad financial decisions, 2 car notes, loans for home improvement. Phrankleen not sure about UK but on the USA there are so many financial literacy programs/podcasts you tube. Eg dave Ramsey, financial independence retire early (FIRE) that folks could educate themselves from.
