Hawaii man greeted by great white shark during 'insane' experience

Underwater photographer Deron Verbeck said he went diving on Friday off the Big Island’s Keahole Point when he thought he saw a school of ulua. But something was off because the size and shape made him think of a tiger shark…at first.

  1. Sharks do intentionally target humans, they are not stupid. They have immense amount of sensory organs and a very great eyesight. They would never mistake you for a seal or a fish. But because they see you as fellow predators, they bite you so you leave the area and don't take their prey. Not to eat you. Great Whites have been show to make aggressive posturing before attacking humans, as evidence for this. Basically roaring type of actions ala like bears do to scare off rival predators. The problem is we don't recognize that they do this.

That's why if there is Great Whites in the area, GET OUT OF THE WATER. I mean that's obvious, but still.

  2. The guy said they’re curious but wary, so I’m figuring the shark might be thinking:

“O-oh…you’re n-n-not from around here, a-are you…? Hehe…well, neither a-am I…um…I don’t want any trouble, okay? So, I’ll just be on my way.”

  3. Pro tip, shark attacks don't have to be deadly. Should a shark bite you, you just need to punch it in the nose and the eyes. It will become extremely disoriented and leave you alone.

  4. My grandfather used to be a lobster fisherman in Rhode Island. He told me a story about a Mako shark that would always greet them on the way back to harbor looking for treats. They'd throw excess/leftover bait for him. There was a big Mako tournament one day and he stopped showing up. He thinks he was caught by someone who knew about his habits with the lobster boats.

  5. Shark :Uh what this weird sea creature , first time i see that .
    Diver : JAWS !
I have experienced some fact like that , but with a Blue shark in the Mediteranean sea.
It's majestic to watch swimming, you feel that it is made to cut through the water thoroughly.

  6. If you see one, they already made up their mind not to eat you, like mountain lions. If that shark was hungry, he would’ve been snack in a second and never see it coming
