  3. I notice that grandma lets baby ellie climb out on its own, while standing right alongside. Letting baby learn how to get out. Perhaps lending a helping leg or knee…

Another rescue from a narrow irtigation ditch had grandma (a different one) use its tusks to lever baby out.

  4. I watched this documentary along with my mother and when grandma elephant pushed away her inexperienced daughter I noticed that my mom was a little teary. She told me that grandma elephant's action reminded her of her own mother (recently deceased at the time) when my mom was still an young and inexperienced mother. She told me that my grandmother used to stay near her, watching her while she was taking care of me and my sister but not interfering all the time. However as soon as my mother was making a mistake while taking care of us she would immediately march in the room and push her aside unceremoniously , showing her how to take proper care of a baby.

  5. Grandmother knows the best..we need their wisdom, please don't kill the mother's and grandmother's wisdom as to the rest of the herd..we need each other.
I marvel if you ever count the cost of family dependence and family needed in a herd when you poached a herd..shucks the heartlessness of our cold brutal hearts..I feel so sorri for family and their herds..

  6. I had to watch the part where the narrator says the grandmother “barges her daughter out of the way just in time,” as we can hear an almighty WHACK!! with her trunk! I wish I could see as well as hear it, but I love it, anyway! Way to go, granny!!

  7. This happens a lot actually…you'll see young mothers absolutely panicking because their baby is stuck or in trouble and the matriarch will just casually stroll over and solve the problem lol.

  8. How I ADORE Elephants (esp'ly African ones… partial to their ears).
But Ellies are such incredible animals for their amazing devotion to one another, to the herd, to their babies, etc. AMAZING! 🌾🐘🐘🐘🌾
