  1. I can place reminders with google assistant on the fly. I tried doing that with Gemini and i could not. Not so intelligent, pal. Back to Assistant until they force me.

  2. yet another instance where the new shiny thing is a fucking turd with lipstick on and much worse than what it's replacing.

i tried gemini for one day, and it couldn't handle the basic things which assistant did well. completely useless for me and i quickly uninstalled and disabled it. good riddance, it sucks

  3. Wait, you mean this LLM that's being hamfisted into a personal assistant isn't as efficient as the personal assistant they've been building from the ground up for a decade? Strange…

  4. If they tried making Google assistant better, it won't have to come to this. But they for some reason left google assistant without any better upgrade like thry do with other ai

  5. Google Assistant was meant to assist, and not to start violating your privacy by being exposed to personal and medical information. Google Gemini is NOT an assistant. It’s an Ai. And, its sandbox is a bit stranger. The idea that the basic rules around what NOT to tell ChatGPT, should now apply to your regular phone assistant is harsh. I’m not sure where this is headed, but it feels like a bad turn.

  6. Gemini is very useful and capable for studying and getting a comprehensive understanding of a subject.
Google assistant is still very useful for turning on my lights and tv, smart plugs, pulling up directions, navigation, product reviews and general info.
They'll soon both be fully integrated with one another but not yet.

  7. People love making bold, black-and-white declarations like “I switched to ChatGPT and never looked back,” or “Gemini sucks, I don’t use it at all.” But the truth is usually more nuanced. Gemini is actually great for managing tasks on my phone, especially since it taps into Google Assistant to control my smart devices.

But when I need factual information, I still hit the Google Search button. And for sensitive topics like politics or health, Google tends to play it safe—and Gemini often won’t touch those questions at all.

  8. Here's an interesting fact if you don't turn Gemini on on your phone, you will have Google Assistant, that's a guaranteed fact. Google Assistant will not disappear. Not at least until Android 17 or 18. These are facts known, I'm surprised you don't know them.

  9. Google Assistant got off to a great start, but somehow, it became absolutely useless to me in later years. I don't know what happened. Since then, neither Google Assistant nor the new "Gemini" (which can't access my contacts, evidently) has been of any use at all. Is there something I'm missing?
