Suuyah is also a Northern Ghanaian delicacy. Many Nigerians don't even know Ghana has a very large Hausa tribe/population in its Northern regions, as well as Fulani. I grew up in Accra eating Suuyah sold by Male Hausa peddlers balancing the meat on their heads on colorful enamel trays, with the meat tidily wrapped in butcher brown paper. In order to sell the cooked meat quickly, one or two of them leave their grill sheds and walk through residential areas clashing two sharp knives together to make the 'Suuyah man sound', which gets us out of our walled homes, to buy the well seasoned meat. A shillings worth of suuyah back then, would be five or six pieces of grilled meat sliced, then sprinkled with suuyah seasoning powder and wrapped in a piece of butcher brown paper. They also sell skewered Suuyah; but I like the whole grilled flat meat that is cut into pieces.
