ALL is set for this year’s Ghana Music Awards, UK(GMA-UK) scheduled to take place at Sapphire Hotel, Croydon, United Kingdom, on Saturday, October 19.

Under the theme Our Music, Our Culture, the upcoming event which is the eighth edition will see a number of musicians awarded for their works in the year under review.

The 2024 GMA UK features 26 categories, recognising the best of Ghanaian music from both Ghana and the UK.

Nominees for the prestigious Artiste of the Year award are Black Sherif, King Promise, Kuami Eugene, Nacee, Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Shatta Wale, and Amerado.

While the competition for UK-based Artiste of the Year will see Joseph Matthew, Akubless, Drogo47, Danny Lampo, among others vying for the title.

This year, Highlife musician, Akosua Adjepong will be presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award while Ofori Amponsah and Mark Darlington receive Special Honouree awards.

Speaking at the launch which took place at YAYA La Parisienne in Labone, Accra recently, Kwasi Ernest, a key member of the organising team, said the awards ceremony effectively mirrored the current trends in Ghanaian music, showcasing the industry’s evolution and growth.

 “Taabea Company has been instrumental in advancing the creative arts, especially through this platform. Our categories reflect current trends and celebrate the achievements of our artistes across genres like Gospel, Reggae, Afrobeat, and Highlife,” he said.

Kwasi Ernest further assured patrons of the scheme’s credibility, explaining that the selection process is rigorous and transparent, employing a multi-faceted approach that includes verifying data from social media, streaming platforms, and release dates to guarantee accuracy and fairness in the nomination and winner selection process.

On his part,  CEO of Alordia Promotions and West Coast UK, organisers of GMA-UK, Nii Ofori Tackie popularly known as Alordia expressed immense gratitude for the support the awards ceremony has enjoyed since its inception.
