It is difficulty cos is a must vetting cos Somalis from Somali carrying bombs can easily get to Kenya,other borders have nothing to do with terrorist only Somali side,
I have seen non kenyans getting their Kenyan passport once they paid $ the officials are so corrupted crooks
imagine feeling like how Somali bantu feels like in Somalia.
One has to wait for the the id for at least 4 to 5 months after the process .so I don't see the difference in the waiting duration..
Tho clans and other questions are sourced by chiefs and grand parents.
The processes are the same all over the difference is the distance..my daughter took her I'd after six months here in Kiambu..
Why are some people be treated different if vetting is about the same.

Let people know that born in Kenya does not Guarantee a person getting I'd becouse there are even some this Communities who have Come from Somalia and Ethiopia and they look alike becouse there are thirteen deferent Community who are all Somalis and only 6 are Kenya's and they don't come with land those lands will bring Conflict if they are not carefully looked well
Am very close to some Somalis.i know for a fact,that When they apply for IDs they are asked parents birth certificates in addition to theirs grandparents( this is the only difference with other Kenyans who only need their parents). That's what they detest and call it over screening.but i don't think it is. Every Kenyan, starts from the chief , so that's not only applicable to only somalis.the issue of starting from the chief is mainly bcos ,only them who wud be clear who is a Kenyan or not. And more do it's complicated to differentiate somalis who are one family.Somalis are composed of 9 clans, from one father and his wived and who are spread across Djibouti , Somaliland hygeisa , ogaden in Ethiopia and north Eastern Kenya. It is very difficulty to know who is Kenya or otherwise. So that screening shud continue. And what is wrong with presenting evidence of parents and grandparents to prove they are Kenyans. Govt must without option continue to screen these people or perhaps decide to bring aboard all the 9 clans across all those countries above, to become Kenyans officially. When one is in Eastleigh. You will find a mixture of all these somalis in one small place so getting IDs from the homes of origin had never been so necessary to avoid infiltration of alshaab which they can't deny is a home grown problem

Forgive my ignorance does vetting haopens only to Somalis or all the other border communities. Also, is somali a tribe, cause if not then we should stop calling them somalis

Vetting is necessary, more particularly the Somalis because you cannot differentiate Kenyan Somali and Somali themselves.
I was born in Kisumu, lived in Nairobi… I couldn't get my ID in 1975. I was told to go back to Kisumu and report to Chiefs office. And produce Employment history of my father. My father never held a job, so I couldn't get ID. I came back to Nairobi and went to Thika… That is where I found an understanding officer who, after listening to my narrative, issued me with ID.
Even in high school, students are still subjected to the Chief's Act when it comes to issuance of IDs.
Issuance of ID to young people is very discriminative in all parts of Kenya. ID vetting placed on the Chief's Act, in my opinion, should be scrapped.
What that lady is explaining is very true. And it is frustrating. My father never held a job in his lifetime, yet I was required to bring his employment history.

Let the acquiring of IDs be the same,the security issue is in every town even Nairobi , Kiambu , Eldoret and Kakamega so security is not the issue but discrimination and fear of the mighty numbers of people.

Birth certificate and parents documents are enough because the parents were subjected to huduma certificates.
My brother lost his id but let me tell you he applied another another one and ask him to pay Two thousand ksh and he paid but id took more than seven months
Vetting is done, not only for the Northern or North Eastern inhabitants but for all people living near the Kenyan borders. I and my siblings, despite born and brought up in Nairobi, had to be vetted before we got IDs. Simply because our parents come from the Kenya-Uganfa border. As an 18 year old, it is a very intimidating experience facing a panel that asks random questions like "what is the name of your chief"? Etc.
This is the same process in Kiambu….of the place you were born. If the chief do not know your family he makes call… for young person you must come with your Parents. This is the same in Kajiado.
My open question to my friends from other communities is:when you meet msomali speaking fluent kiswahili what's yr reaction. Do you consider him/her as kenyan

I am from Mandera Secondary School in mandera county , i applied my ID last year match 2024 , its been more than six months and i couldn't get….. VETTING IS THE REASON I AM SUFFERING NOW..

Recently a young Kikuyu man narrated his experience when looking for an ID. Having been born in Tranzoia later his family relocated to Kiambu. When he went to the registration bureau they sent him back to Kitale for vetting before they could issue him one. According to him it took time before he got. This means it's not only in the northern side people are delayed as many put it
Whats all this madness… Native Kenyans are not coming from nowhere to be Kenyans… Whilst we make noise, Somalia is in trouble because of themselves and seeking refuge elsewhere…they should be vetted thoroughly for the safety of a country that has always been at peace. Alshabaab are not native Kenyans rather of Somalia origin. Remember many have disappeared in Eastleigh to join the alshabaab. Vetting keenly is very important so it should be as it was before or more thorough because those sneaking into the country is giving those good ones a bad name. Many Somalis due to their religion disdain others…wanadharau waliopata inchini mwao so sometimes, i dont see reasons as to why some should be at the level of others when they consider others not at their level.
