Genuine question to understand why cities destroyed in African American riots is sometimes justified

Genuine question to understand why cities destroyed in African American riots is sometimes justified. I’m doing my best to remove any assumptions from my end and listen to you. Please understand this question is in good faith and you’ll forgive me I misspoke in a way that isn’t expressing that clearly.

  1. They're "justified" in large part because most of the left is petrified of the far left (the progressives) whose ideology prevails in most large corporations, social media, and academia. So just about no leftists really take hard stances against the riots.

Progressives that genuinely do justify it would probably give you a mildly intersectional answer interwoven with a widely quoted line from MLK that is typically taken out of context. Something along the lines of "MLK said violence is the language of the unheard and it's only natural for deeply hurt and oppressed peoples to occasionally resort to violence. We are only human. I firmly do not believe there would be riots if conditions improved for African Americans."

I personally buy most of their explanation, but I do get very hung up on the idea of destruction of private property of any kind, especially by people who do not even live in the areas impacted by that violence, and most leftists will gloss over negative aspects of these events entirely, or simply never even consider what they might be before reaching a conclusion. That is where my sticking point is personally. But, there are of course counterarguments to this as well.
