  1. Table Mountain's no joke. A few years ago I got separated from my group when the cloud cover hit, it can change things in a second and you wont be able to even see your hand in front of your face.. Luckily another group steered me back on the path after things cleared up and I found myself completely off all trails and literally had to slide down holding on to rock and bush to get to them. My mistake was being impatient and separating from group continuing to move. I still think about that close call and what would have happened had that random group not heard me calling out to my friends

  2. More people have died on Table Mountain than on Everest. You can never hike alone there, it's extremely dangerous and never go off the footpath or try and do a shortcut. Many visitors underestimate the mountain because it looks different from below and the weather can change rapidly.
I'm really sorry for her loss. Such a tragedy. May her family and friend find solace and peace.

  3. You never hike alone in South Africa…never!!! Especially not in the Cape area where the weather is unpredictable. There are so many hiking groups to join

  4. Its so sad..We hrieve eith you over your loss!…you need to know that when You come to South Africa , you come to a country where crime reigns, where life is not valued PLEASE DO NOT GO OUT UNLESS YOU ARE IN A GROUP OF 10 OR MORE PEOPLE, AND THERE ARE MEN IN THAT GROUP.I am a 76 year old South African who has lived to see our once beautiful, safe country go down into a hole that is draining us of everything that is of value and precious in life. BUT GOD …He is our only hope!

  5. It is very dangerous to hike any popular spot in South Africa, especially as a female. There are gangs waiting to rob you. There are hiking groups on FB look them up and hike in groups. I am an American living in South Africa for ten years.. The hiking groups are because of how unsafe it is to hike SA.. Mainly in places where there is a lot of tourist etc

  6. She probably had an accident and fell to her death. I`m just glad she wasn`t raped or murdered. That said, it`s always a good idea to carry a firearm when you hike alone in South Africa, just to be on the safe side. Avoid bushy areas, don`t hike alone, and stay in the open to avoid any possible surprise attacks. This world is full of evil. My sincere condolences for her grieving family. I know she is in the loving arms of Jesus and enjoying everlasting peace, as I speak. Love from South Africa

  7. South Africa is murder capital of the world no matter what mainstream media try to say to the contrary and hotels back Packers should by law be forced to put warning signs up about danger posed go nowhere alone

  8. South Africa is a dangerous country and hiking alone is absolutely one of the things you don't do. Why wasn't she warned about what is going on in this country before she came here?

  9. I am heart broken, but Brook was extremely Progressive and could no longer bear to live in a world that reeks of social injustice, systemic racism and an unequal distribution of resources. She dedicated her life to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Restorative Justice, LGBTQIAPRMJ rights, neoSocialism, Recycling, Climate change, Right to Choose, Gun Safety, etc. She had a million things on her mind, and the very thought of Donald Trump winning the election terrified her. RiP

  10. I think as a society we REALLY need to begin to research why we our children and young adults appear to be losing their CRUCIAL sense of self preservation. I think living in weird social bubbles is literally destroying their instincts and costing them their safety or even their lives like in this sad case.

  11. Who goes hiking all alone in a foreign country?? She was a "scholar" in what, exactly? She appears to have had zero common sense. I recall a couple years ago a highly decorated professor went to Greece and—–went hiking all alone and of course a local predator quickly dispatched her.

  12. Many people have died of hypothermia while hiking in the Cape mountains through the years.
The weather can change very rapidly from being warm to icy cold with strong winds.
People often go up the mountain unprepared for bad weather.

  13. Regardless of what happened… why would her parents allow her to travel to South Africa alone? One of the most crime ridden countries in the world… delusional I tell you

  14. Tragic story. It sounds like she clearly was failed by many, starting at an early age: liberal parents, liberal teachers, etc., letting her develop and live a woke lifestyle. The idea of sending this young woman to South Africa to train local men and boys on the dangers of "masculine toxicity" is pure insanity (a fact that this story fails to really report in detail) in the danger that presented. Her team in South Africa should have warned her about going out alone, especially hiking in the middle of nowhere, but they are probably just as clueless as she was. Even the SA government warns people to only hike in groups of four or more. She should have stayed in the USA and studied at the Planetarium. She'd still be alive. And now, it looks like she paid the ultimate price for it.
