I really hope as black men and women we do better to give each other the space to let all of us be vulnerable. I was raised by a strong woman and was taught the perception that crying was being sensitive, which in turn was weakness. You wouldn't think that a woman would teach a little girl this but my mom was a daddy's girl. I think it's very important to really break out of not just societal stereotypes but also the cultural stereotypes that we place on our community. Ironically after my mom passed away, I became more vulnerable than I was as a little kid after hardening up at a young age. I had to learn to allow myself the space to just be vulnerable by myself and now I am definitely trying to apply that on how I relate to black men because I was definitely harder on them than I was on myself. Let's focus on our generation doing the work and hopefully we can pass it on to the future generations but also teach the previous ones. Thanks for this discussion.
