Fisker Ocean 2.0 – 2 Little Too Late?

The Fisker Ocean was the worst car I’ve ever reviewed. Can the 2.0 software redeem it?

  1. "The old cars had a bug where they couldn't receive software updates over the air. So unfortunately they're rolling out the .0 update in stages by sending technicians around to cars to update them. But that's fixed with 2.0"

  2. With a background in software development. I kind of get it why they want their own operatingsystem in there, because both Android and Windows is this messed up pice of crap with so many bugs and errors it can't be saved. They basically keep it on life support nowadays. I don't know enough to comment on MacOS, but I guess it's healthier.
But to lay down all this money on excellent hardware (except for the onboard computer, maybe) and fudge it up so severely on the software part is mind blowing. To me it seems like they released it in an early alpha state and now it's in late alpha with 2.0. My point is that when you venture this kind of money money into a project, you should have advisors to tell you that at least half the budget should go to developing the new operating system. Or settle with what is already available.

  3. When you buy a vehicle from a guy who goes bankrupt, making the vehicle nearly worthless, there is some sympathy.

When you buy a vehicle, from the guy who previously sold cars now nearly worthless, which is now or will be nearly worthless, it is called stupidity.

  4. I have to wonder how all the big car brands would have fared if today's internet and social media was around back then. Or if todays complain about everything generation suddenly found themselves living in that time period. Cars always had major issues of some sort or another and when I look at how people have trashed this new fisker over what are really issues that could be sorted out fast if the brand was not facing financial troubles. Looking at the SUV it's a really well designed car and even build quality is good for a what is all new brand even if they are using the same fisker brand name. It's also funny how people have forgiven Tesla over all the quality control issues they still have even today and I think its telling when an all new model from a new startup brand is building a car that is better built that even new teslas is rather strange and proves that the cult of elon is a real thing. Even old brands have struggled with all the modern tech cars have and so many have dodgy software still even today. I understand people want a perfect car when buying new but if you aint the type that puts up with minor or even some larger issues in a new brand and car then don't buy into the brand till they have at least the second generation out. Now even if fisker could have found the money they are so tarnished by people and videos like this that its basically killed off any chances of that happening. And its not just the brand people helped kill off but also means the people that brought one are now going to lose so much money.

  5. Huh. I was literally at The Grove today and they have a storefront. I peeked in and they just came back from a test drive with some older man in his late 60s-early 70s. Yikes.

  6. 0:25: "The Fisker Ocean was the worst car I've ever reviewed"

This video came out a couple of weeks after your video review of the Cybertruck. That truck is dangerous to anybody inside or outside of the vehicle, and should not even be street-legal. The Fisker Ocean has some minor annoyances, but it probably won't chop off children's fingers or accelerate uncontrollably because Fisker decided to save $0.10 on a screw to keep an unnecessary gas pedal cover from sliding around. Oh, and I'm guessing you can wash the Fisker Ocean.

That statement completely erodes any credence I had in your reviews or judgement about what makes a car good or bad. I'll avoid your videos in the future

  7. For 70K you would think they could hook a brother up with a glovebox. I think their stock is at 2 or 3 cents; if they're having a fire sale I would give them 15K cash and take my chances with it.

  8. Not even joking on this one but my dad has worked with the guy that is vp of software development at Fisker and is probably directly responsible for the software issues in this car 😂

  9. Am confused is having a tray instead of an actual glove box supposed to be the cheaper option or what's going on there😅I still find it incredibly weird it still doesn't have glove box

  10. Almost all new models of any make have problems in he first year sometimes for several years, most of your complaints were way too nit picky. And while I love your videos I think you're spoiled when it comes to cars. You're too young to remember when cars had dashboards that squeaked, That was annoying,

  11. 9:00 car losing regen when going over a bump or something that causes loss of traction event. The first generation Chevy Volt does the same thing, The Fisker is not alone. Regen will cut out, but sometimes the computer will decide to hit the hydraulic brakes significantly for you, sometimes not & so it feels like it will lurch forward it's just how it works on the Chevy Volt But one does get used to it it's no problem.

  12. Why would you not put on your seatbelt though. Sure, freedom and all that, but like… cars are designed to keep you and your family safe. A seatbelt has been proven since the 1950s to do that. Heck, a Tesla just called emergency services when the driver ran off the road, and when they arrived they found him dead, launched out the front windscreen because no seatbelt. Ergh…

  13. Kinda hope Fisker makes it, seems better built than most vehicles today. I travel for work and have driven many, many vehicles as rentals and I see alot that are poorly put together and terrible quality control lately. I had a Hyundai Kona, basically brand new, even slower, laggier screens than this, had another earlier this year that was fine. I had a Nissan that was brand new, the screen for the dash and the one for the infotainment both would just crash and reboot every few minutes so as you are driving you'd lose your speedo, cruise, lane departure, music, A/C or heat, like absolute crap. I'd take this Ocean if its better built, but the software needs some tweaks, over alot of vehicles I have had as rentals. Obviously that isn't ideal either, but its the better of two bad options, I just don't know any car company today that seems to be able to put out a good car right out the door with good quality control and consistency, and not talking about nit picky small issues.

  14. I checked out the Ocean and inside felt it was a little too small. I didn't drive it but the materials felt nice. I did this while owning a 2021 ID.4. That car was my worst car experience. It had a lot of the same issues you found with the Ocean but with a much larger and mature car company. So I can't fully knock Fisker for those same issues in my mind at least. I looked for your review of an ID.4 to see if you reviewed an early model and didn't see one. Supposedly the newer models are much better so it would be a interesting car for you to review and compare to all the other cars in the segment.

With the ID.4 we had issues with the software and not over the air updating too.
    – It took 23 months and 29k miles before they were able to get it in to update it at a dealership to have the updated software and over the air capabilities.
    – Mine had some sort of sensor issue where it would give me warnings about drive aids not working and to see a dealership. But then they would go away after a few minutes. Multiple times my dealer just tells me there's nothing wrong. These warnings would come up on clear sunny days when the car was clean so nothing was blocking the sensors.
    – The tires installed from the manufacture were crap, possibly faulty. They came with 20" Bridgestones and they would wear way quicker then any other EV. I had to replace them at 18k miles and that's with literal chunks or rubber coming off the tires and the tread close to being too far worn. Other people only got 12k miles out of the tires. Yet people with Teslas and other EVs are getting 30k plus miles on the tires. VW did nothing about this. I replaced them with Pirellis and for the 10k miles I had the car for after that they barely wore compared to the 18k miles with the Bridgestones.
    – It didn't have a great regen or hold either and it mostly was updated with the software update.
    – My car had remote issues too. The passenger doors never unlocked on the first try. Most times it took 6 plus pushes before they finally unlocked. They had a recall for door locks and claimed they fixed it but mine never fixed and it still didn't work.
    – Speaking of recalls, in a little over 2 years there were 5 recalls requiring me to go to a dealer and drop it off with no curtesy car. So that's days I had to take off of work or work around driving to my nearest dealership, 45 minutes away each way to deal with this.

In the end it was a shame because the car drove and handled pretty good, after the tire replacement. But I got rid of it as soon as I could and life couldn't be happier.

  15. Can't believe no glove box to keep your registration in and other important papers if you get pulled over by a cop… Don't know if you can reach the floor if a cop is outside your door…
