A lack of evidence is not evidence in itself. Yeah, there is a lot of nocebo. But PFS is real. I'm sadly on team anhedonia from PFS. I'd leave the team if I could… 🤷♂️
The area needs a lot more research. It just simply is tricky to trial a 5AR inhibitor when not knowing if it'll give PFS/anhedonia. I see it as a game of russian roulette. Of course, not everyone gets PFS. I'm happy for those that don't. But I would not advise risking anhedonia with anyone. It's like you're alive but the lights aren't on.
My hairloss is originally aggressive which made my scalp visible under sunlight at 19(diffuse thinner) and i can't tell if i have a shed or it's AGA progression, but after a month into treatment my hairloss got worse and its progressing even further, i got more visible scalp after starting treatments

I am a huge supporter of finasteride and dutasteride and believe they should be prescribed to every man to prevent prostate issues late in life. Finasteride and dutasteride affect your hormones which affects your mood. The first month of finasteride and dutasteride I experienced heightened depression as expected. However my hormones stabilized after a month and the depression went away. While my brain is genetically geared to depression my body and diet is geared away from aromatization.
I never had any sexual sides from either finasteride or dutasteride, but I definitely felt depression from dutasteride. But I knew it was going to happen so I told my therapist ahead of time and while the depression was happening those first few weeks I reasoned my way through it that nothing negative was happening in my life and the depression was simply the medicine working on my hormones. It worked, I was able to contextualize my feelings as nothing to worry about and something that would pass. It was not depression related to hair loss as mine is very advanced, and I'm not even taking dutasteride with the delusion of regrowing hair. My goal is to simply minimize hair transplant costs.

I’m on Dutasteride currently 5 months in but still haven’t stabilised. Had a blood test to test hormones and deficiencies for my hairloss, which came back with high prolactin just outside the range. Just wanted to get your opinion if this could be a main factor to why I’m still losing hair.
Can confirm PFS and its relation to depression is real. Because of finasteride I feel much less like shit and my depression isn't as bad after getting hair regrowth and not seeing intense shedding anymore
I first tried topical finasteride. I thought that it did not penetrate into the blood. So, when I got sexual side effects, I did not associate it with the finasteride. I was looking for other explanations. Eventually, I switched to the Propecia pill, still believing the finasteride wasn't causing the ED and libido issues, and they got even worse. That's when I connected the dots and started researching the topical more and found out it did penetrate into the blood. I took a drug holiday, and went back to normal. Then, I thought I could try to power through and see if the side effects resolve, thinking that if they don't I could always stop again and go back to normal. But, the last time, after about 8 months of continuous use, there were permanent issues. They improved over time but never went back to 100%. I'd say 80% but I deeply regret taking it. I don't think it should be banned. I do think people should try it. But, stop if you have serious issues.
