EGYPT & JORDAN | Ep1: Solo Backpacking Egypt

Solo backpacking through Egypt in the first leg of my month long trip as I travel through Egypt & Jordan.

Egypt & Jordan are undoubtedly on most people’s travel bucket lists, but I’ve always had the impression that the majority of people travel there on an organised tour.

So I wanted to give it a go by myself and see what it was like treating…

  1. Hello, brilliant video as always! Any chance you remember the name or location of the mosque you climbed up the minaret? I’ve been Googling every single mosque in Cairo to try to find it 😂

  2. ارجو أن تكون قد استمعت برحلتك إلى مصر ولكنك نسيت أن تذهب الى الاسكندرية ومطروح وترى بحيرات الملح 😂😂🌹🌹

  5. How do you capture your movements if you’re alone? Do you have to pre-stage it with a tripod, then backtrack to show yourself coming through the entrance?

  6. I'm coming back to this video for the 600th time, as I've used it as inspiration and study material. My stay in Egypt is winding down and my experience mirrors your's so much it's crazy. Being put in uncomfortable situations at the pyramids, temple burnout, and loneliness. Don't mistake it: I'm grateful for the opportunity to make a lifelong dream come true. But this place is draining.
I'm wondering though: how do you view your time spent in Egypt now that you're so far removed?

  7. We're currently planning our Egypt and Jordan trip. Tons of great information in this video. Thanks so much for putting this together. I often get asked about the safety in Egypt and people seem like its such a dangerous place to visit. Do you even read the headlines in the US? Someone gets gunned down every single day. The US doesn't even top the top 100 safest countries while Egypt is in the 50s. So I'm not worried at all actually. We've been to 20 countries around the world and I'd say I can't think or many instances where I didn't feel safe.
I love your videos. The quality is great and I really enjoy how you take your time to talk to people. We love talking to locals and getting off the beaten path. My wife and I feel like traveling is the only way to really experience life and happiness.

  8. Getting scammed is disheartening, but at the end of the day, it was just $37. That's basically a casual lunch in London. For these people here, it could mean meals for a month or more. All in the fun of being a privileged Western tourist.

  9. Excellent video!! Next time you travel I will go with you so you won’t be lonely 💕. I just got back from Israel 🇮🇱 and Jordan 🇯🇴 I also went to Africa on a short term mission. I’m looking forward to your next video

  10. I was persuaded to spend about 18 days in Egypt by my girlfriend Lynne. We saw many (and more) of the places Karl saw, but it was a few decades ago, and the Nile cruisers were quite primitive. However being a couple made the trip more enjoyable; (I think Karl was alone more than he would have liked, but the filming was very good). I filmed 6 hours with a camera-to-VHS big camera and have never got round to editing it. Karl is right to suggest a bit of preparation helps, but it was still a fantastic experience. Relaxing by the Red Sea at the end was needed after many very early morning temple visits (we went in the Summer / Autumn). It's a beautiful country. Thank you Karl, for the reminder!

  11. Good old times. I am glad (and very lucky) I backpacked in 2019. The world as we knew ended in 2019 and now it's only crap after crap. It's considerably more expensive to travel now.

  12. Hi Karl, I amazed how interesting your narrations are despite you acknowledging lack of previous knowledge. Technically the video was excellent. Sounds and editing were perfect. I am glad I watched.
