  1. As someone who did 2 years of remote work as a software engineer in Ghana, and left Ghana after a layoff, I would say, financially working remote in Ghana is way better than moving abroad ( I used to earn 2x what I earn now, and cost of living especially fixed one like rent was 80% relatively cheaper in Ghana compared to here) but systematically moving abroad is worth it especially moving with work and family.

Switching jobs, creating career network , infrastructure, etc… here is way better compared to Ghana. In Ghana, I could spend about 10% of monthly income and save the remaining which made me better off in terms of savings and investment but in depreciation of the local currency hit very hard if I needed to spend big. Over here, I do not have money to remaining for savings and investment but inflation and general prices here are reasonable and I have never felt pressured in spending.

In all, I will choose Ghana over here if I was single without any family responsibilities because Ghana is home and there is no place than home.

  2. A lot of U.S. companies don't want their employees to work outside the U.S. any more as remote workers are spending their earnings in other countries instead of the Corporate Plantation which is designed to keep you working forever……………………………………. It is much cheaper to live in Ghana compared the the U.S. and it is only going to get worse. For a single to person to live comfortably in America you would need to make at least $70K a year just to be "OK". If you get a Tech job in the U.S. come with the mindset of returning back to Ghana in the next 10 years. Save and invest your hard earned US dollars in Ghana as it would go further in Ghana compared to the U.S.
