'Crown jewels' looted by British soldiers returned to Ghana on loan | BBC News


The UK is sending some of Ghana’s “crown jewels” back home, 150 years after looting them from the court of the Asante king.

A gold peace pipe is among 32 items returning under long-term loan deals, the BBC can reveal.

The Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) is lending 17 pieces and 15 are from the British Museum.

  3. Britain should keep these items instead of returning it because it's of no use. The black man will still sell it. This African kings can't be trusted. I plead with the British government to keep it.

  4. The ashanti were known for looting gold from other African tribes. these gold were probably stolen by the ashanti people. They were one of the biggest slave producers. I don't feel sorry for them.

  5. The person talking on our behalf do not have sense trust me. How Can the woman ask you if the stolen item being given to us be a problem and you say not really that at least it will come home . What a man. We needed Sam George to be rather interviews on this topic

  6. British has done a lot of wicked and inhumane things to Ghanaian people. How can stolen articles be loaned back to the rightful owner? Make laws to keep your items with all the strength you can marshall.

  7. AS A GHANAIAN WATCHING THIS , I AM LIVID TO THE IDEA OF THIS LOAN CONDITIONS , THESE ARTIFATS WERE STOLEN FROM US just give them BACK without any goddamn conditions…..
