'Church's failure to stop John Smyth cost my brother's life' – BBC Africa

It was December 1992. Guide Nyachuru was excited to attend a holiday camp. By the following morning, he was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool. The camp was one of those run in Zimbabwe by John Smyth – a barrister who died in 2018 and who’s at the heart of an absue scandal involving the Church of England. His sister, Edith, thinks that…

Why is Coltart defending Welby?! Oh, give it a rest!

@bloombloom271

Matthew 18:6-7.

@donnyetta

I am now of the opinion that the devil is very busy in organised religions. Rest in Peace the victims that suffered so much they chose to end their pain 😢

@Zerina-i6m

Very few religious institutions value and respect children as equal human beings. Truly sickening….

@hilberryable

So much for calling themselves Christians when they knew of his unforgiveable behaviour.

@nicolaablett7790

the church knew and relocated him from UK TO ZIMBABWE AND THEN RSA
How does anyone trust the CHURCH OF ENGLAND

@sygilloux-v2

bet he had a perfectly clean conscience too. this is what happens with a god "forgives EVERYTHING". people like this act a fool then dump their guilt on their invisible friend like its nothing. dangerous people abuse these systems regularly cause on top of everything, you're given a certain level of trust just for holding some labels.

@catherinegrimes2308

This is terrible news, her brother deserved a lot better. The hierarchy of the CofE should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves and the people who enabled John Smyth should be sacked.

@lisaabbwtt6118

So sorry for your loss.😢

@Whiteraven-m1p

I'm so sorry for this young man 😢

@Fardafaghad

Don’t trust religion it’s just business and people running the business are bunch of clowns.

@Momojojo-1225

The Church of England protected this evil bastard!

I feel sorry for John’s family . They have true remorse for his evil deeds.

Arch bishop of Canterbury has NO conscience!

Bishop of Newcastle has a conscience! She stood out and demanded what has right!

@mah3223alia

I'm so sorry Edith. He was a disgusting animal. When his abuse was uncovered in the UK he was just allowed to leave the country and abuse elsewhere. He should have been jailed.

@unickmatanda5465

They knew he was dangerous why send a dangerous man who was sick in the head ?

@unickmatanda5465

Edith so sorry for the loss of your brother . That is painful . May his soul rest inPeace , Very sad that he was allowed to go to Zim as a missionary . How many victims are there in Zim? Are they receiving counselling? What is the Anglican Church in Zim saying?This is very painful.

@louise2921

The Bishop knew..!! Sorry not sorry!! Sending love and healing to the family..

@JacquelineIthell-t7s

WAKE UP PEOPLE CHURCH IS VERY POWERFUL, WHATS SO SAD IS THIS IS WORLDWIDE FACT

@cyberT3000

Its disgusting that he was allowed to do missionary work in Zimbabwe. He was funded and had the support of the church, yet they knew he was a danger to children. They let it slide because he decided to leave. We Africans are done with forgiveness.

@kerrythomas7411

One word “RACISM”

@mariebyrne8377

He should have got jail the evil b…..😠😠😠😠😠

I send condolences and compassion to you on the terrible abuses the church covered up and that the result was the death of your brother. What happened to not warn the church in Zimbabwe about this dangerous man. Thank you for talking out in this intev.

@imrhodesian

Smythe's wife must be arrested

@annlewis7685

The Anglican and Catholic Church always shift their dirty, sick debauchery behaviours to black countries, with bible in one hand and evil in another. This not the first it has been having for decades and still probably continues.

The Head of the Anglican Church is the monarch the Head of the Catholic is the Pope. I don't see why people must now down to man, who lives lavishly and say they are helping the poor, more like abuse.
