China-US trade war: Can Trump win? | The Bottom Line

Veteran Singaporean diplomat Kishore Mahbubani argues that it’s “legitimate” for US President Donald Trump to be worrying about the widening gap between rich and poor in the United States, but his idea to force factory jobs back to the US is probably not going to work.

Mahbubani tells host Steve Clemons that China will be damaged by the…

  1. the problem with us is they dont have origin american people to ask the advice and they alwayss ask others thats why american nots in the right , will always changing and changing , the decission always goes to who answer the best and to the culture who answer it ..

  2. Trump originally thought that as long as tariffs were raised on China, China would negotiate with him immediately and he would hold his head high on the world stage.
But he didn't expect that the Chinese wouldn't fall for this.

  3. What is he talking about – if you spend more than you make whether its an individual, a corporation or a nation you are in trouble and with 37 trillion in debt and every 100 days another trillion dollar is added that is unsustainable and red flags and US cannot continue to print money and be the worlds sandaclaus giving foreign aid and be the police of the world for free. If they dont address their debt they will go bankrupt as Elon said. Trumps tariffs have now made 90 countries come to the negotiation table and for US to lower tariffs they are demanding 1. Lowering VAT taxes, 2 Currency manipulation by countries like china 3. countries like china going to vietnam and cambodia to manufacture and send goods from there to get lower taxes 4. Some countries ban US goods like for bio reason like Australia's ban on beef. They basically want a more level playing field and some manufacturing to come back to US soil. And its working for america look at the billions pouring in to US to set up manufacturing from chips to cars and drill baby drill. China too will come to the table for it cannot ignore 350 million american consumers – their construction is suffering and now their factories is closing and already they have high youth unemployment, they can't take another hit or Xies seat will not be there for long.

  4. So propogandy including the comments . Us Americans want to sit back & have our cheap goods without laboring . This gives the world a lot of jobs – but it also decreases America’s national security . America is not self sufficient .

  5. Trade wars yield no winners. Trump's tariffs accelerate dedollarization to erase world wide debt similar to Germany after the World war 1 and 2, making it wise to abandon the U.S. dollar in favor of safer alternatives.

  6. Mr. Mahbubani offered many interesting insights on this issue, but I think it's important to point out regarding Donald Trump's motivation that his lifetime record does not support that his behavior and actions are driven by any concern for the economic plight of the working class poor in America. On the contrary, there is a mountain of facts and evidence that what drives Trump is pure self-interest combined with a paranoid belief that anyone who doesn't bend to kiss his ring must be out to "get" him. He obviously engages in projection, seeing his own proclivity to cheat and to take advantage of others, even in those who don't have those tendencies.

  7. Most of you are not aware that oligarths have been in control all along. George Washington was the richest President but FDR and JFK were very rich too. Oligarths like Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Carnegie, Ford, Getty, Chrysler etc etc etc have always had their way.

  8. The big wrench is what was needed for decades because we had chickens for politicians. Orientals have really outdated ideas of honor, even though their ideas have remained for centuries when apparent theft and the lack of honor that goes with it are absent! Your turn thousands of years Chinese….get up to date!

  9. I think China would like to have the U.S. suffer for a period. Don’t expect China to restart trade with the U.S. anytime soon. The U.S. are going to experience shortages, empty shelves, shortage of raw materials for US manufacturing and components. That’s before high prices take effect. What a mess Trump has made

  10. The U.S. is becoming an island. The world is walking away from the U.S. the U.S. is now untrustworthy and no one wants to trade with an untrustworthy, arrogant country. This sentiment is huge.
