For centuries Africa has been looked down upon by the West and awfully treated, no one really cares and has hope for them. So glad to see them rise up these days. Good job China for making a difference! All the best!

China will own Africa. Why are they being so foolish. These infrastructure projects will have them in debt just like Jamaica. The money is already there in Africa but they have too many tribal differences. How can you form partnerships with China or Europeans but not other Africans?

Africa needs to teach tech and industrial skills to be able to build their own. They can’t survive on agriculture and providing labor for others countries.

As much as african countries benefits from no string attached billions in aid from China ,,, this loans are not openly tendered hence they are overpriced and opaque and prone to manipulation from govt and Chinese officials making them expensive in long run..any despute involving the project is resolved in china😮😮😮

Why are you reporting this like the railway hasn't already been operational for more than half a decade now?
It is just phase 3 in discussion now.

Anyway, it is about partnership. Let's stop this false narrative that we are more independent with Chinese partners, truth is, all foreign powers come in to exploit. Whatever good they do to you, just know they are extracting a truly handsome profit off it.

Good for Kenyan people and good for China. Just look at almost a century under the West, did they do anything to better life of those people? West under Anglo/American leadership has been nothing but a group of thieve to rob others, nothing else.

The most important function of these railroads is connecting African cities.

Infrastructure built during the colonial period connected the mines to the ports. Their objectives were to facilitate exporting the resources.

These new railroads connect the African cities. The objective is to create a market. With the market comes everything else. The jobs generated by the railroads themselves are the beginning and will be a small portion of the economic benefits of the railroads.

Let no one be under the illusion that the Chinese are doing all of this from the kindness of their hearts! Kenya beware of jumping from the frying pan into the fire…remember that, all that glitters is not gold. The Chinese think in terms of hundreds of years. What looks good and shiny today, may take on a much, much less attractive patina after a few decades… China has learned from the mistakes of the West in Africa to tailor their approach in a much more palatable way…but the end result may well be the same or even worse… Remember that when elephants fight, it is the grass that is trampled… I fear we in Kenya are just being used by the current powers as pawns against each other…

    It opened in 2017.
1/ It costs Kenya a lot of money every year.
2/ There are only 4 trains per day with less than 50% occupancy.
3/ Freight trains often run on the old rails, because this is cheaper.
    4/ It is NOT electrified.

When was the last time France UK or US built any infrastructure for African development besides setting up dictators who help aid the West to loot, steal and pillage African mineral resources.
The 18-19th century railways built by the French and British were set up for looting African resources back to Europe. European prosperity is thanks to theft of African mineral resources
