Cape Town officials say more than 30 power outages have also been reported across various areas in the metro.

  1. It would have been great if shacks or other informal dwellings enjoyed some sort of insurance for such natural events to help people rebuild quickly. Gift of the givers really do great work!

  2. Cape Doctor winds no more severe than they ever were when I grew up. Walking at 45 degrees down adderley street was a skill you learned.
    Difference is…..those days, buildings were properly constructed, so their roofs didn't just peel off. Plastic carports were yet to be invented and in those days, unlikely to pass muster, had they already been.
    And we were not expected to coexist with "bergies" lighting fires everywhere except anywhere appropriate. They were arrested and locked up.
    One of many reasons I left the WC ( my home Town) in 2000.
