The trick to shaving with bar soap is to lather portions of the face with the hand rather than trying to make a nice fluffy creme…
Do it section by section…as the lather collapses quicker.
Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser.

That hairline is rising quicker than a Chinese skyscraper 🏙️ 😂
I use shaving cream, gel for beard shaving with aftershave.Underarms and body I use bath soap to shave while bathing followed by alum block only.
I usually don't use any of that stuff, just water and my straight razor and that's it. Done that for the last 10 years and can't complain at all. Yes, with a propper shaving cream is another kind of experience (smooth and nice) but the results without that kind of dandy/fancy stuff are really good as well.
I use shower gel, it works decently well. Can't really invest into good shaving until I start working.
When shaving, I use both an electric shaver and a double edge razor. One or the other works better than the other for certain parts of the face. Because of this, I do end up using both an after shave and shaving cream.
Get a no-fog mirror and shave in the shower. You can skip the soap altogether and use just water.
I shave my head every two or three days using a bar of soap. Works fine with me.
Shaving soaps are probably the best for your skin, however I feel its too much time and effort to build up the lather. To me a quality cream is the best compromise and still results in a clean, close shave.
0:06 traveler tip: keep 3-day survival essentials (business cards, change of clothes, casual shoes, toiletry bag, medications, computer/phone peripherals, etc.) in your carrry-on. Just assume the airlines are idiots and will lose your checked bag.
I Shave in the Shower twice a day with whatever is available. From Imperial Leather to shampoo. I've also used beard oil too. I have no issues with any of it. I always use a moisturiser, though.
Raphael your face look like it’s screaming you didn’t get a good shave you can see where you cut yourself. You did a number on your face
This would have been perfect for a collaboration with Mantic59. Pretty sure that bar soap can do bad things to razors. My experience was they clog up a lot faster, even with good DE blades. Cassette blade systems plus bar soap, it just don't work for me.
Use duct tape like a real man
I’ve used only soap for years.
I have no intention to be mean, but this sounds a bit like some hidden intestet to sell stuff. I shave dry quite often and it's been more than a decade since i spent money on aftershave or anything shave related other than safety razors. Aftershave? No thank you. Dove soap will totally do it. Am i a neanderthal? Quite possibly. Shaving products are a waste of money for me.
When traveling through India I was surprised that the road side barbers in general vigorously leather water with a brush prior to the shave, and no lubricant. Their method is to allow the water to soften the hair follicles over time (generally a few minutes, though 30 seconds entails some pain).
Merkur 39C and Feather blades are a nice combo! I have one myself!
Also own a Muhle r41 which is definitely more aggressive.
Interesting and informative. I have been using an electric shaver these past few years and it never gets as close or smooth as the old razor.
Did you arrive in the Congo at 5 am? If not you have lots of stores to buy anything from underwear to toiletries. In fact I never carry those things I buy at destination and leave the remains in the hotel. Expensive items like fragrances go to the checked luggage, so you pass security with no hassle. This is filling not advice, my advice: unless you have needs like a skin condition, travel light and buy at destination. Get jog jeans and do not use belt, use Apple Pay and do not carry a wallet, have a bag without a flap for easy access
I've used Arko sometimes. Its soap and very very fatty.
Interested if you could use Dr Bronner's ie. a liquid Castile soap.
I've actually shaved with olive oil a couple of times 😅 It does an ok job, but I wouldn't use it with a safety razor.
And how was shaving the chin area
I shave on water .
The answer is yes. Is it more or less comfortable? Depends on your water, soap, and skin.
When I travel I take my shave kit with me in my carry-on bag. The only thing I leave at home is my DE razor, and I replace that with a good cartridge razor and several cartridges.
This way I have all of my stuff and can freshen up in the airport restrooms if I am excessively delayed.
For sensitive skin; Hot shower second cerave moisturizer, than Vani cream shaving cream. At least 2 passes with 2 lathers shaving cream. For razor burn or bumps use hydrocortisone. Finish with more moisturizer and after shave!
I shave with Irish spring aloe bar soap in the shower all the time and don't have any problems doing so. The big thing is to make sure that you have plenty of moister on the face with the bar soap. Have a choice between some Stirling soap or bar soap … it's the artisan soaps all the way.
Have a great day
My hair grows back rather quickly both facial and head hair so thanks for the insight. No worries though as I'm getting a haircut soon. Also A t shirt definitely can look classy with a pair of dress pants as proven here as long as it's in an extremely casual setting obviously. I appreciate the info as usual.
Another alternative in that situation is to not shave.
Why is raphael dressed so casually this episode?!
I've used bar soap instead of shaving cream for 50 years does a great job….and I have very sensitive skin. I do shave in the shower so maybe that makes the difference
