I'll tread carefully here, as I know Southwest Asia / North Africa are parts of the world where blasphemy is not considered a moral virtue to say the least. But I'm not sure why anyone should be surprised by the atrocities being committed against each other by two groups of people with competing notions of faith. Faith is the accelerant to this fire, and nobody wants to discuss this (although Bassam Haddad hinted at it on several occasions in this clip). Hamas was influenced by their faith to do what they did in October 2023. The Israeli settlers are influenced by their faith to do what they're doing in the West Bank. Hezbollah likewise – the leaders of Iran likewise. Netanyahu's cabinet with its not insignificant shortage of religious fanatics contained within likewise.
All I know that when this war ends (as all wars do), the members of our species who subscribe to a religion need to have a serious ecumenical debate regarding the supernatural claims they're making — because if those claims drive people to violence, then they're morally bankrupt — not to mention being a mix of not evidently true and demonstrably false.

Diplomacy could succeed if not for Israel AND US clearly uninterested. With US wanting credit for "working tirelessly" while reassuring Israel that they can, at the very least, do exactly what they want and they will continue to receive support.
