I feel like if we as an individual always feel the need to fulfils a certain societyβs beauty standards. It will just tire us.
Also itβs not just in South Korea. Iβm Southeast Asian, and in my home country looking Caucasian or βwhiteβ, as in high nose bridge, pale, big and doe eyes, is, considered beautiful. I donβt see the problem with the Korean lady saying that in South Korea that looking white or having a certain beauty standards is beautiful. However, the Second Lady is also correct. The beauty standards have changed over time. Iβm a K-pop fan too. Iβve seen many idols looking more diversified. Back in the days, having a double eyelid is considered beautiful. Now, if you have a monolid and youβre beautiful, then youβre beautiful. And guess what? There are even Korean female and male celebrities who many Korean people donβt find pretty. How ironic, right?
Now, are there Korean/Asian who are judgemental? Yes. But there are Asians who are accepting of other peopleβs features. People will always have their own beauty standards and itβs not our job to fulfils that. Embrace your features. Like the pink shirt lady said βIt doesnβt matterβ
I think the Korean lady was probably projecting or making others feel uncomfortable to be in South Korea because her own people didnβt consider her as pretty. And frankly speaking, thatβs okay. I think she should make peace with the fact that sheβs rejected by her own people and she canβt meet their own standards.
Iβm Southeast Asian and I donβt look like the beauty standards that my home country likes. I think Iβm pretty and beautiful. Iβm just not for everyone. β€
