If you ever get caught by someone going through a red temp traffic light . Just say that yours was green aswell so they must be faulty 😂
Ben is totally right. What he needs is a BMW Mini. Great on the country lanes and comfy/quiet on the motorway. Swap the run flats for decent tyres.
I feel like I've been one of those "local folk rally drivers" for a brief time. I remember driving to a summer camp for a couple weeks within my first year or two of having a drivers license, and it was down this country road that I rode through most of my childhood. I probably still know every bump and divot. One time a couple years later I was driving my parents to get some farm-fresh produce, and had to dramatically slow down my pace because they were white-knuckling the hand-grips. The funny thing is I never was attempting to go fast (not sure you'd want to try, what with the road having off-camber corners that shouldn't mix well with a 4Runner), it was just how comfortable I was on that road.
Mentioning the 4Runner (2008), that's way too much car 90% of the time, yet here in the US, it's become mid-sized in the last few years. I lean toward first-gen Rav4 being about the largest car people need on a day to day basis.
We have to force Ben to become a car person, we can't let him lease a car.
I never run red lights because I'm on a motorbike and I know that some numpty will be speeding along with their day lights on and we'll meet up for a lethal kiss.
if its a RX-7 I will EXPLODE
I was 100% RUIN at the weekend. I had a disaster changing the front lower control arms on my Z3 (project car newbie, learning by doing…). I had managed to loosen the nut on one of the ball joints, but couldn't completely remove it due to corrosion on the last few threads, however enough of the stud had dropped below the chassis that I thought I'd be clever and angle grind it off, then I'd just lift the stud & nut up and out. Except I didn't realise the stud is tapered, so it was still stuck and I had just removed anything I could use to hold the stud and torque against. I tried to grind a slot for a flat-headed screwdriver (chipped the screwdriver and further mangled the end of the stud). In the end I used the trolley jack and some scrap metal to focus the jack onto the stud and take the weight of the car, finally giving me enough resistance to overcome the corrosion on the thread (the other side played out the same way, although I stopped short of cutting the control arm off and just used the jack on the bottom of the ball joint to give the same effect). Absolute bloody ballache, and a day and a half of blood sweat and tears, but valuable knowledge and experience gained and I am now back to RULE!
As a Brucie bonus, I removed the front ARB during the process for better access and have been giving it a bit of love while it's off the car – hand-sanded down the corrosion on the bar and sand-blasted the brackets back to bare metal, fresh coat of paint and finally fitted new drop-links and powerflex bushes. And with my new found familiarity with the front subframe, I am planning on removing that and sending it away to be shot-blasted and powder-coated at the end of the summer (probably the ARB and track rod ends too so they all match and a tougher finish than rattle-can)
Love this podcast, never fails to amuse me. Keep up the great work chaps
The homer !!
is it a ferrari that was on its side ;D
Ruin, someone broke into my car, stole some stuff (that was out of sight) but the headache was getting it fixed
No I ran a red light two way no one coming other way after a night shift the
The rozzers sitting in side street waiting for people to do it many years ago the pulled me 20 yards down the street they went mental
My question/ issue is that I don’t understand saloon cars, surely 90% should be estates, with the option of saloon if preferred. It’s literally just wasted space above the boot lid. If a saloon’s boot space is adequate, then just buy a large hatchback
I was waiting for podcast on 2dc channel for the last week or two then randomly come across this channel and what do you no it’s the podcast
I wasn’t aware use were starting a new channel for the podcast hay
Anyway cheers love your podcast
RED LIGHTS
Just flash your full beam at any temporary traffic light on red and it will change pronto +as long as long as it's clear at the other end . Try it- it really does work .
Great listening as ever 👊
Cheers 🚘🚘🚘
35:35 100% going.
1/4" torque wrench for bmw gearbox sump bolts – some bellindo decided to use aluminium bolts there 😆 Always use new ones for refitting – buy a lotto ticket if all umpteen of them came out without snapping. 👍
I’m a defender owner. It’s my daily. Mine is the best ever 😉. Na it’s M57 swapped with an ZF 8 speed auto and a disco 1.2 transfer box.
Even with all that, still sucks on motorways mostly because of wind noise.
Anyone running a standard defender has zero defence
Question for discussion:
Do manufactures engineer kill switches / kill timers into devices?
> Why is it when you have just come out of a manufacturer warranty something goes wrong.
> Or is the warranty period defined based on large scale testing by a manufacturer and they just know that after 'x' miles mechanical issues will arise.
I want to see the boring stuff!!! ❤
Last week I was in Ruin for once as I got a puncture on my winter wheels the week before in my work carpark from a giant screw. Changed two of the wheels later that night and drove to work the next day. Then as I'm waiting to leave work that night, my headlights kept raising and lowering and a headlight error issue popping up on the dash. Plugged my obd in and worked out it may be the passenger front level sensor, disconnected and unplugged the level sensor and battery, plugged it all in and still got the issue. This week however is rule only because I've got new wheels and tyres on the car and loving how it looks 😂
As much as it pains me to say it the " perfect size " for a car has to be the Xl hatchback / small MPV. Something like a Kia carrens, Toyota wish, Mazda MPV. They have a massive amount boot space to rival a van with the seats down, small enough for about town, large enough for the motorway and although cramped they come with 7 seats if you ever need it.
Lancia ?
And Ed's feet are big, so it's easier to see dirt on giant shoes…
I feel like I can smell Ed's shoes through the camera…
I've said it before, you're on cam, don't wear gross looking shoes,
Semi Rule? Nothing important to note but I did buy a spot cleaner and finally cleaned my filthy seats in my Subaru, I was amazed at the dirt that accumulated in the catch canister. Also, Teslas would be too heavy to send to the moon wouldn't they? they'd have to strip it back immensely.
it's a ruin for me unfortunately, on my way back to my university accommodation from a trip back home I hit a gigantic pot hole at 50mph. somehow the alloy didn't crumble into pieces however the tyre decided it didn't want to be filled with air and thus a hole appeared in the side wall about an inch wide. when I got back to my accommodation I decided it would be a good idea to put the spare wheel on, in my year long ownership of the car I had neglected to check the spare tyre any further than checking it existed. it was only during these unfortunate events that it had transpired that the spare tyre was the one from factory… and was 20 years old. so my poor mk4 golf Estate is now sitting on these tyres looking very sorry for itself while I get the damaged alloy repaired and a new set of tyres on the fronts.
I ran a red light on temp road works and i didn't realise undercover was behind me and got pulled and got a right bollocking
The car that Homer designed was called "The Homer"
There's a roundabout near me on a dual carriageway where the left lane goes left and straight on but the right lane can only go right. The left lane queues but the right doesn't, so I almost always go straight across in the right lane. There's 2 lanes entering the roundabout and 2 leaving and no logical reason why it's marked up that way. All it does is cause queuing in the left lane.
My Good friend and whom i share my unit with is the editor for Land Rover Monthly…..I'll ask him he should have more insite lol @landrovermonthly7806 '😂😂 from 26:43
If a lights red, I'm waiting. My dad followed the car in front through temporary lights at green, they both thought the cars in front of them were parked (it was a quiet village). Police pulled them both and they had to go to court. My dad admitted the fault and got (10 years ago now) 9 points and a £600 fine. The other women contested it and lost her license. There was no speeding and no crash but they were charged with 3 separate offences. Criminals on those tv shows that lead police on a 100 mile, 150mph chase get less.
On the subject of an e90/e91 bmw being the perfect size car. I had an e91 until a few months ago because I thought it would be the perfect family car for my family of 5 and our dog. It really wasn’t 😅 it was way too small.
I’m 6ft 1” so about average height for a man these days. For me to have my seat in a comfortable driving position my youngest daughter needed to have her legs amputated 😂 I’m not even joking! So I had to faf about with seat positions and steering wheel height etc to get enough leg room for her in the back while maintaining some sort of comfort for myself. Then when my wife needed to use the car she would undo all of those settings (granted I could have bought a car with memory seats but I didn’t think I’d need to)
Plus the rear seats are really narrow so my daughters ( 3, 5 & 10) weren’t able to all sit in the back of the car all at once because you couldn’t get their car seats in. Meaning I may as well have bought an Audi TT 😂
The boot in it was more cramped than my mk5 golf that I had before it because the wheel wells intruded so far in on both sides.
From the outside it looked like a decently sized car that would be great for a family but it was so cramped. I looked at an f11 5 series to replace it but that wasn’t much better. The mad thing is my weekend car (mk6 fiesta st) has moor shoulder room in the back and my kids have more leg room even when my seat is nearly all the way back!
I had a similar experience a few weeks ago with someone in a fiat panda. I was in my mk6 fiesta st so I probably had a good 75bhp more than him plus a car that was on par weight wise if not maybe slightly heavier but not by much.
They obviously knew the roads like the back of their hand as I couldn’t keep up with them for love nor money 😅 it got to the point where I stopped trying because my car is mint and I didn’t want to damage it where as this panda was probably only worth £500 with £300 cash in the glove box 😂I think you’re thinking of fitment industries

Hi there! FORUM TOPIC: How to search for wheels.
Wheel sizes, measurements, brands, materials etc…
I've been wondering for quite some time how do I search for wheels for my car. I've searched for manufacturer spec sheets, but I just don't understand which measurements are the ones I have to use and what they are. First of all, sizes, I understand that going 18+ Inches doesn´t actually look good in most cases, is there an all-round good size for looks and performance? which measurements are the ideal ones for perfect fitment? are spacers required or could you pick deeper mounting wheels? which materials are better? (I think aluminium are the go-to) do you recommend some cost-quality brands? Also, tire thickness, I understand you like thick boys, but how thick?
P.D: The H in Alhambra is silent, unless you want to say it in a funny way like "All-ham bruh" meaning "Give it all the ham bruh" which is actually quite funny.
Stay humble! People love you.
Cheers from Spain!
I think the American website Edwin is on about is Fitment Industries
Neither rule or ruin. Just SORN'd my car, off long term sick and rarely drive it, and the tax renewal was £760
Traffic light controlled roundabouts come under the temporary traffic light rule too
guys why the new channel
that aside when you make a new channel at least tell us wtf
Sometimes those temporary traffic lights don't work, and I got stuck on red and was waiting for 5 minutes, I could see the other side. No car was coming and there was a car behind me (I couldn't tell what car as I had a tinted rear window). I decided to go though the light as it wasn't changing….I got half way through the light and saw blue….the car behind me was a police car 😂😂😂 luckily managed to talk my way out by saying I bet all these lights are still red, he slammed my door told me to wait. He came back looking mad 😂 and told me to be on my way 😂😂😂😂😂
Rule, our 08 toyota rav4 with 160k miles passed it's MOT with 1 advisories which was exhaust box corroded.
RE: Traffic lights.
Supposedly there was some sort of experiment that originated from what I think was Holland or Sweden where a local authority turned off the traffic lights for certain parts of town because they found out that people were generally much nicer as it forced them to interact with one another to decide who had the right of way and traffic moved a lot quicker.
I think they tried the same experiment somewhere in the UK and they were going to roll it out to a much wider area but I think the local council who was running the experiment didnt bother carrying on with it.
Kind of agree with Ben on the car size. I get what he means. Some cars are too big. I think an A4 Avant is probably a perfect size. Depending on the person and use but realistically it’s a good choice
Love the channel, first time commenting I think. But you guys Deffo need a reversible hoodie. Rule and ruin!! You know you want too.
The only time I run red lights is when I'm on my bike or it's below freezing in my car, and the light refuses to go green because it doesn't recognize I'm queued at the stop-line.
Here in the US, many of our stop lights have sensors to monitor each direction of traffic for better traffic flow. They're great, until you're on something small or it gets extremely cold.
